205 55R16 or 205 45R16

My buddy has a 2007 Honda fit sport. He just bought Firestone Indy hawk 500 205 55R16 tires for it. They are rubbing in the back with the slightest of weight in the back or hitting a large bump in the road. Should he have gone with the 205 45R16s or should he told his rear fenders?

yah, i think i too ran 205/45/16's when i had my GD like 10yrs ago lowered and all.

Anyway if your friend wants to keep the tire (due to money reasons) id check where it's rubbing and if it's the rear quarter arch, get a heat gun and a wooden baseball bat or mallet and gently heat and roll the metal to give it clearance.
