Thinking of buying Used blizzak's.
There is a set of used Blizzaks for sale near me (Boston) that I'm interested in. There is 8/32 left of tread. They say they have been used 8000 miles.
1. How many miles do you normally get out of winter tires?
2. How much life do you think is left in these?
is it worth potentially 200$. (I am thinking to offer 150 but not sure if they'd accept.)
3. Real question, should I buy these or just go new?

Winter tires are not rated with UTOG. How long they'll last depends on your driving patterns and where you drive. You'll probably get through this winter, and maybe next. Not familiar with Boston winters. The most important info to look for is the date of manufacture.

What size are the blizzacs? I only see a michelin x-ice from my source in a 185-55-16 - these are rated 40k and are around 140 each TREAD DEPTH IS 10.5
I don't see that size available from my source but heres info on a 195 / 60 / 15 WS70 - as you can see it has no warranty and tread depth is 12 when new - a thinner tire is always better in snow but only 10mm is not a bad trade off .
Weight 19lbs - Load/Speed 88T - Mileage Warranty 0 - PlySL - Season Designation Winter - Sidewall Black Wall - Directional Y - Extended Mobility N - Load Range Standard - Max Load Single1235lbs@44psi - Overall Diameter 24.21 - Rim Width Max 7 - Rim Width Min 5.5 - Rpm 857 - Ship Weight 19lbs - Studdable N - Tread Depth 12

The size is 175/65/15. Im waiting to hear back on the specific model. I havw heard (but dont know if its true) that some of the blizzak's are not great during their second half of life. Does anyone have experience with them?

I'll take worn Blizzak that I put on my sons car over the new General Alitmax that I put on mine to replace the Blizzak. In my unscientific side by side test, the worn Blizzak seemed to go through the snow better. Albeit there was probably 20 minutes for me to change wheels since both used the 4X100 bolt pattern

Winter tires wear incredibly fast in warm temperatures. They usually start out at something like 12/32". That much wear to me indicates the people used them way into the spring.
Snow tires are only good to something like 6/32". So if at 8/32" they're probably 80% worn?
I wouldn't pay $200 for them. I probably wouldn't buy them. I did once buy a set with about the same thread depth, but they came mounted on steel wheels and only cost me $100
Get new

My Blizzaks were fantastic the first season I ran them on my lowrider truck
Great the second season.
Acted like any average snow tires by the 3rd season.
Didn't run them again after that.
WOULD buy again but we don't get much snow here anymore.
Soft tread compound, wore fast.
I also switched tire direction each season to even out the wear.

Here's my logic.
Why do we buy snow tires?
Ostensibly it's to increase safety, driving in winter conditions.
So my opinion is, why would I want to pro-rate safety on some really hard to evaluate matrix?
Any savings buying used produces...goes right out the window, if the tires fail, in a situation newer or better tires may not of failed.
I say just go new.
THEN you can evaluate the deterioration, starting from BRAND NEW. You get the benefit of year one...year two...you aren't being asked to take a risk, with something that in my opinion is a product we buy primarily to reduce risk.

The best snow tires I've ever use were Nokian Hakkapelitta. That being said, any snow tire is better in the snow than the best all season.
