Battery Cover Removal

While installing my intake this weekend, I was wondering what is the point of the plastic battery cover on the Fit? It doesn't seem to do much besides get in the way.

My question is: Can I remove this piece without hurting anything? I ran a forums search and didn't see anything on the topic.

Thanks

The only other possible function of the plastic shield is to help keep the battery cooler. Otherwise, I don't think the Honda engineers would have included it on the car.

It seems a bit to flimsy to be a heat shield, and I've never seen a plastic one. Who knows?

remember plastic is a good isolator, besides it will protect the chasis from acid leaks.
