Haven't seen a dyno curve yet, so I can't comment as to any physical evidence, but I have the AEM CAI installed and it is a great CAI. Makes a nice sucking sound when you step on the pedal, but more importantly, I noticed better top end acceleration and power. Albeit it wasn't much, but it was noticeable.

i read somewhere that CAI can range from a gain in 8-25hp depending on the application. my only concern was hydrolock. idk how the rain is up there in canada but do you have a bypass valve or hydroshield on yours?

p.s. your ride is clean as helllll

Talking Cai

I think most of the CAI gains would be in the area of 4~7HP max on an N/A car. Turbo and supercharger applications will provide your car with BETTER gains, for bolt ons such as a CAI.
Not sure where exactly you live but I have a similiar intake and have been through rain storms, car washes etc and NO PROBLEMS. From what most people will tell you as long as you do not submerge your intake in water...you will be fine. As stated you can buy a water bypass valve to go onto your AEM...it is restrictive but it is an extra precaution for tuners like yourself how are concerned.
AEM has always put out quality parts! You can NOT go wrong with AEM. Hope this helps.

You won't have to worry about hydrolocking. The only way you could possibly hydrolock your engine because of a CAI is if you dunk your front end so that your filter is submerged in water. I do not have the bypass or hydroshield installed, it really isn't needed. You should expect 3-5hp gain I'd say...not much more. That's still about 5-7% hp increase which is pretty good. And thanks!

thx for the advice guys. yeah i'll probably end up going with the AEM CAI cause of how cheap it is and the power you get out of it. i just want my butt dyno to show some results . plus, if i feel like going with SRI later i could always just go with this behemoth

CAI on a NA motor is for sound. you're not going to net much of anything
out of it, especially for street. im not sure if i want a noisy car when it
can only hit 60mph 9sec after... plus the loss of lowend torque on some
of those short ram... on a small block. imho, you're going the wrong way.

if you want true gains, you have to run FI...even turbo in a bottle (nos).

no way am i gonna go with forced induction. naturally aspirated ftw. when i pay this little fit off, i'm most likely gonna drop a k20 in it. yeah all i want really is to be able to have a little fun with it. also i heard CAI was more top-end so i'm thinkin i'll go with SRI

yep, if you just want to have fun with it, then you're on the right track.

dont expect much gains from it and you're fine. you might think you felt
something at first, but once the ecu adapts to the new environment you
wont feel anything.

We get some pretty heavy rain up here and I have yet to even come close to having any issues with my CAI. I think the AEM is a great intake that you will see some noticable gains with.

I personally run the Fujita CAI, similar setup except it is a once peice. I love it to death You can check out it out on Import Tuner's Fit power page.

Short Ram Intake Numbers

Anyone have HP/TQ numbers for a short ram intake? Is it best of both worlds when it comes to low/top end power? I'm contemplating which to buy. Money is not an object just making sure I don't sacrifice my 35 MPG average.

ok, will try a SSI myself and let you know if it does anything for street.
im more for low-end torque for street so will see how it does. it looks
like chambered is wat i would need. the other option was topfuel but
that weird angle bend they used was kinda skeptical. i shouldn't
speculate, but anyway...

the a/f is definitely too rich at wot imho... motor is begging for more air
especially now that im at 1k miles and pushing the envelope more and
more.

the Fujita and AEM are pretty siilar and the difference in gais I'm sure is negligable. I have the Injen CAI and IMO it sounds the ebst since the air pickup is in the fender and it has a 1ft lenth of silicone which helps get rid of the obnoxious resonance some CAI's give.

What I dislike about the Injen is that you have to take off your bumper to change the filter.

I've heard the AE intake on a fit and found it was too loud and "peaky" sounds ricey.

The Injen gives it a sweet "tuned" sound. but if you don't wanna jack off your bumper all the time. Fujita based on price.

Or T1R Bspec for engine bay candy

If it is sound you are after don't count out the Aspec. I have heard it has a very nice sound to it when compared to other CAI's
