crazy newbie question

I totally love my new Sport AT but the one thing that is kinda trippin me out is the fact that there is no engine temperature guage (just the too hot/too cold indicator lights). This is the first car I've ever driven without a temp gauge and even though I never do any racing, having a gauge has saved me from destroying engines in previous cars multiple times (from water pump blow outs and radiator leaks and whatnot). So - has anyone out there installed any sort or temp guage? Another thing i was looking into was getting OBD data over bluetooth on my smartphone. Am I being too paranoid?

that light is for the coolant. isn't a temp guage one of the guages people install above their center a/c vents??

A good alternative route would probably be a scan gauge. Keep tabs on your mpg and your temps as well.

to be clear - I guess what I meant was coolant temperature gauge (which i believe would pretty closely reflect the engine temperature). The gauges typically range in temperatures from 100 to about 250 degrees Farenheit (212 is the boiling point of water). Yes, there are indicator lights which tell you too hot or too cold. But with a proper gauge you might actually get some warning *before* it gets too hot. Or you might see the engine being too hot but in the process of cooling down a bit. When my old jeep's water pump blew out I knew right away something was wrong because the temp normally stayed right in the middle (180?) and when it blew the temp started climbing quickly. Even though you aren't supposed to drive at all at that point, I was able to make it home by monitoring temp, blasting the heater, and maintaining a slow steady speed. I guess since having a gauge has saved me from more serious problems in the past I was wondering how difficult it would be to get one on the fit.

Another vote for scangauge. I have it in my Yaris. Neat toy! And it shows engine temp in degrees.
