with engines as new as ours, i dont understand why there would be an issue with switching from synthetic to conventional, but i'd be weary to do it on an old car or car with like 300k miles

i think thats a little wasteful, most dealers use plain chevron 5-20, nothing wrong with it, if you want to put in all that work you could, there would be no problem, i would feel bad wasting all that new oil though,

i would take your synthetic in with you and have them put that in during your free oil change, i would be stunned if they had any probelm with that.

Well, instead of wasting the new oil, I'd be putting it into the wife's honda, that way I'm technically only buying oil for my car and filters for hers...

(I kind of feel cheap toying around with this idea... lol)

I've been using Mobil 1 since my first oil change, I'm approaching 22k miles. I'm also using Honda filters.
I did this on my supercharged civic and it still looks good inside after 140k miles! (most of them boosted)

call me ignint.

here are my thaughts on the matter. we have 109 hp so unless your running a turbo set up save yourself the money and use regular oil. the avg ownership period for a car is 5 years or close to it so its safe to say that UNLESS your planning on keeping this car forever and i MEAN FOREVER!!!! dont even bother. so!!!
in closing.
royal purple IF your TURBO OR SUPERCHARGEED
OR
IF your gunna keep your car forever

OTHERWISE 25 dollar oil changes ftw dont waste your money...

when i asked the guy at the honda dealership IF I COULD GIVE HIM MORE MONEY FOR MOBIL 1 HE LAUGHED AT ME AND SAID KID SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

You can get 5 qts of Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec for $20 at Walmart then D.I.Y. Cheap as any regular oil change and you get synthetic.

I believe in the superiority of synthetic and have heard of and seen its benefits in my time in the automotive industry. That being said, I also have an Accord with 250k miles on it and it's always used cheap regular oil and cheap filters, and the engine is still clean and going strong after 22 years.

i put Mobil 1 in my fiance's fit and she said she noticed a difference the next morning on her way to work. she said it felt more smooth.

i put Castrol syntec in my fit. so far, i like it. i had been using Motul in my EP3, i will probably use Motul in my fit when it's time for my next oil change.

I took the plunge and put mobil1 5w-20 this last change and so far I'm coming up on the 4K mark and still sitting pretty at 60% (not that it might have any significant meaning). The butt-dyno is pretty numb so I can't tell any real difference aside from the oil life meter.

umm... that oil life meter is based on ecu data, no?

I would assume that the ecu has some algorithm to calculate that percentage, but I don't really know what variables are taken into consideration and how they are weighted...

To me, it's just an arbitrary number on the display that turns on a dummy light when the magic number is reached...

But as far as other observances of smooth idle, more power, and whatnot, I can't really discern any difference...

i have one more free oil change at my dealer, so I am eventually gonna start doing oil changes myself.

I have used mobil 1 for my mini, and all other cars, since it was one of the few to start out making synthetic oils.

anyways, so how do you know when royal purple is dirty, since its purple, not yellowish, to turn brown/black? and is royal purple a categorized as a synthetic oil itself?

ive also heard that when you for example use conventional oil, your suppose to use 5-30 as stated (the oil for the fit; as standard?) for the fit. but when you use synthetic, you CAN use 5-20? since its synthetic and provides more protection already, etc etc? and doing so can like give you more mpg, or something i suppose. i heard about this, so dont flame me please, is this true? false?

I've been using royal purple since my third oil change. I have about 22k on the car now. I noticed that the engine felt like it was running smoother when I put that in. All in all it's really up to you. If you want to spend the extra on synthetic go ahead. Basicly when it all comes down to it, you get what you pay for!

So I guess my main question is, how come nobody mentioned Honda motor oil? I mean they built the engine, yet we can't trust their oil? I know it's made by Mobil/exxon and specially formulated for Honda and Acuras, but the manual swears it's the best thing since sliced bread so why not?

Honda oil is 100% fine, just like the Honda air filter is 100% fine. But synthetic oil is an upgrade, just like a K&N air filter is an upgrade. Honda wouldn't fill a car with synthetic from the factory because that would force customers to pay much more for every oil change.

While that is true, I heard (don't quote me) that Honda motor oil is a synthetic blend. Will have to look further into it. If synthetic were truly better (which i'm not completely doubting) wouldn't they say that it was in the manual? Instead it pretty much just says, in not so many words, "if you insist on it, you CAN use it", but that Honda motor oil is liquid perfection. While I do understand that a bit of a marketing undertone can be heard there, due to the fact that they get money if you use their oil, I can't help but think their oil would be the best. After all, I don't think any true Honda fan would disagree with me saying they truly build the world's finest motors so when it comes to oil anything with their name on it would be gold... you see where I'm coming from?

hear a lot that honda oil is just rebranded mobil oil.

that's fine, i just got mobil 1 5w-20 for the first oil change at 5,200 and a purolator pureone filter. i see other guys on here went full synthetic after the first oil change and had no problems. my car feels pretty well broken in, i get great gas mileage and theres been a few days when i've driven it kinda hard too so it feels like it is ready to get that factory stuff out.

once i put mobil one in i plan to just run the car according to the maintenance minder to change the oil since it's synthetic.

to you guys using royal purple what weight oil do you use? 5w-20 or 5w-30. its easy enough to find 5w-30 but not so much the 20. i don't need the 30 since i live in the northeast too, i want to switch over to royal purple on my second oil change.

good dope here on oil filters too >>> MiniMopar Resources
helped me decide on the
purolator filters along with quite a few other guys here that use them

For my evo i uesed royal purple its the best oil out there for performance cars. If i am right u gain about 1 or 2 hp from it in performance cars. Because it keeeps temps down. They did it on a evo a while back. But for the fit why spend that money its not a performacne car just regular oil is fine.

i also use royal purple (i justify the price by getting a 20% discount and doing it myself so no labor costs) and i love it. after the first change switching from conventional to it the BIGGEST difference i noticed was how smooth the engine felt, especially during hard accelerations.

before, esp. around 4k rpm, the engine would feel as if it was almost metal on metal, hard to explain but think stiffer. after then change it felt more like butter on a warm pan, and a lot smoother.

have not noticed any power or mpg gains, but im sure the small gains ARE there (i was totally convinced after watching that load bearing test)

anyways, I figure the engine will last twice as long with royal purple than with conventional, and this way i dont need to upgrade to high mileage ever, as I will already have a better oil in there to start
