synthetic or non-synthetic
Perhaps this is a silly question, but if synthetic is used in place of conventional oil, how do you reconcile with the oil change indicator light? Is there a way to manually reset (i.e., turn off) the light each time it comes on, as the synthetic should last between 2 and 3 times longer than conventional.

Yeah but to be safe I use magnetic plugs and I change my oil every 2700 mile regardless, and I usually change my own oil cause after having jiffy lube put civic oil in my b18c5 motor after explaining to them that it was not a civic motor in the car pissed me off I never had any probs out tht motor the whole two years i had the motor in and suddinly as soon as I go to them about 4-10 miles later boom/grind my #3 rod broke. And the only reason I take my car to the dealer to do it is cause its under warrenty but my local dealer has royal purple now so the next time i go I will switch if that oil wont void my warranty

FYI most "synthetic" oils are not...companies like castrol mobil etc have been sued over this term "synthetic"....most oil is synthetic base meaning most of the synthetic oil is not synthetic.
Me personally I run amsoil products in my fit. I also run it in my very high compression drag motor in my 2000 civic si. When rebuilding the drag motor I can tell you the main and rod bearings have little to no wear and still almost look new each time I do a tear down.

Thats retarded, when I had my S2000 and got oil/filter from the dealer they gave me MOBIL 1. Never had a problem with it.
For my evo i uesed royal purple its the best oil out there for performance cars. If i am right u gain about 1 or 2 hp from it in performance cars. Because it keeeps temps down. They did it on a evo a while back. But for the fit why spend that money its not a performacne car just regular oil is fine.
I use Castrol Synthetic Blend. I ran the oil for 6,700 miles and got my oil analyzed by black stone Labs. They told me that there were still a lot of active additives in the sample of oil I sent them and that I could extended my oil change interval to every 8k.
Evos can only run on synthetic, cause the oil feeds the tarbo of course.
I've given some thought to using 0-20wt but I can't find it here in East Podunk Texas. It would make a difference in acceleration due to the reduced drag from less viscosity. Drag racers are using really light oil these days. I used 10-50wt Amsoil in my Harley Shovel Head, and got a lot of flack from the old hardcore scooternasties. I was able to go from 25,000 Mile top end overhauls to 29000 miles, and that was after adding a lot of horsepower and using it all of the time. The lower end and valvetrain showed little wear though I had put in a long duration, high lift cam solid lifters springs and spacers and had a 115 MPH 2nd gear.Very tall gearing. If I was going to use a lighter weight oil I would install an oil cooler and a magnetic drain plug and filter wrap. Synthetic is the only way to go, even if you don't keep it for ever. Using it may be important if you are trying to sell your car to a discerning, and informed driver.
