Hey all, I have a 2013 Honda Fit sport and I’m looking to get the windows tinted. Since I live in Alaska, and the legal limit is 70% tint in the front, I’m not gonna touch those. I’d only consider maybe 35% on them but I’d have to check with the tint shop. The real question is the rears. 40% is the legal limit in the rear in AK, and I was quoted $249 for 5-35% tint for the 5 rear pieces of glass. The place I contacted said that they’d redo the tint for $40 if I ever got a ticket for my tint but they said they’ve never had an issue with it before. I was thinking 30% on top of the factor to get around a 20% total tint.

Does anyone have recommendations or suggestions?

Stay with what is legal in your state. Remember that the darker the tint on the front windows, the harder it is to see out of them at night, especially in dim light. I once almost whacked the mailbox in the driveway one night, cuz hard to see out of the window. I live in Phoenix, really hot in summer, wish I could put darker tint on rear windows. But you will get a ticket if it's too dark.

 

20% is a nice balance I think. Around me the cops don't bother you with dark tint (unless you are pulled over) but depends where you are. Is it worth the risk for you? Cost? How much is the fine?


There are places around me that will remove the tint for inspection every 2 years for free and reapply once you are done. The initial install cost is higher but still reasonable.

 

I think mine is 35%. I don't drive much at nite.

 

Mine is at 20% and somehow a little bit darker than i think at night.

 

That tint must be helpful in keep the sun out and keeping the car a little cooler on sunny days.

Decided my forearm getting sunburned in traffic was unacceptable and got tinted the other day.

Amazing how much cooler the car is inside on a warm/hot day. I was really trying to convince myself I needed ceramic tint but in the end couldn't justify $500+ for window tint. True Ceramic tints will block even more heat, especially at the lighter % films, but I'm very happy with what I ended up with.

This is 3M Color Stable film @ 50% - Supposedly it's a nano carbon mid quality tint comparable in price and quality to Llumar CTX or Suntek CXP or Johnson insulatIR - I'm extremely happy with it. Bought at Specialized Auto Tint in Irvine, CA. It's a 1 man shop run by a great guy who takes pride in his work. He did a 350 z for me a while back and worked on a few friends cars. Small shop, not a ton of options, but good quality and fair prices. I'm kind of a 3M whore, never had a problem with their products.

Trying to avoid any cop hassles in socal. I think it looks pretty classy without being too dark. I've never been too stoked with super dark tint, too hard to see at night, windows show water spots way easier, cop hassles etc. In brighter sun it looks a bit lighter than these photos. The fits big front window does a good job of keeping the front windows from looking too dark too.

 

White fit sport with darker windows looks so good. I'm a bit jealous, I might have to go get the same treatment on my white FitS

This infernal socal heat also makes it practical, but I am concerned about the night drive. A friend of mine has super dark tints on the side windows and driving that car at night is the stuff of nightmares. I've been a bit traumatized by that experience, haha. How do you find night driving with your new tints?

Also, did the tint shop remove the factory tint or did you keep it?

 

White Fit would be pulled over and let go with repair ticket at best. Or, depending of the circumstances, this may initiate another human rights violation investigation. To make black and whites happy, do not tint the front door glass (you still can put transparent uv resistant/anti shudder film)

 

To my knowledge there is no factory privacy glass available for the Fit, and if there was it would not be removable. From a tint perspective this is a good thing and results in a more consistent look all around (assuming you are using the same % all around). Night driving with this level of tint is a non issue. I've also had 20% all around on another car and admit to hitting a curb once or twice in parking lots at night.

I do like that the rear glass being fairly vertical/flat prevents the "jacobs ladder" reflections along the defroster lines that some tinted cars get at night.

The heat and UV reduction were my primary concerns and I think this accomplished exactly what I wanted.

Sure the cops could still hassle me about it but I think going lighter gives me a better chance of not getting popped.

If anyone was REALLY worried about it the true ceramic tints in 70% would be nearly unnoticeable and provide better TSER ratings than a non ceramic at 50% or even 35% in most brands. I just couldn't justify $700 window tint... People do their windshields @ 70-80% all the time and it's almost unnoticeable except for the heat reduction.

 

Everyone has an acceptable level of risk. I chose mine. Fix it ticket at best? At best, nothing will ever happen because of it hah.
