Speedometer has been randomly going crazy (usually reading an absurdly high speed).
Yesterday, I was cruising down a residential street at a constant speed with other cars alongside me when suddenly the speedometer kept climbing until it was reading 100+ mph. No way I'm that reckless.
Issue comes and goes randomly. Usually occurs when I'm on the highway, reading that I'm going 80mph+ when that isn't possible with all the traffic around.
Also noticed for the first time recently that the needle stayed stuck at 65mph even after I turned the engine/car off.

Is this an issue with the instrument cluster? Or the Vehicle Speed Sensor(s) ?
I've had a wonky speedo on another car but it was due to a bad speed sensor connection, these symptoms look different. Do you have an OBDII dongle? It could tell you what speed the ECU thinks you're going.
It's purely a guess, but since the needle gets stuck even when the car is off, I'd go with instrument cluster or ECU->cluster connection issue.

Yea it's pretty strange. This was the first time I saw the needle stuck when the car was off. Usually it's just reading way faster than what I'm actually traveling at.
Bad stepper motor on the gauge cluster. Nothing wrong with the ECM or anything which is confirmed by the fact that it shows 65 even when the car is turned off.
I know this is a common issue on some older GM clusters and there are repair services for those where they replace the stepper motor, but haven't heard of anything on a car this new. I'd probably warranty it.

That's a bummer. I think the warranty is over now =[

The speedometer was reading incorrectly at 120mph while driving on the freeway the other day, and then it was stuck at 75mph after the car was off. I was also able to confirm via OBD that the OBD speed sensor is reading the correct speed (matches gps). So you're likely right about the stepper motor issue.
Now I have to figure out how to tear down the instrument cluster without damaging it to get to the pcb. Looks like the motor unit is a through hole and not a surface mount at least...

I would not buy the motor until I tear down and find out if that's the correct size/type motor for the speedo. While you have it taken out also check for corrosion on the guage cluster connector/pins.
The used ebay speedo that CVG posted seems like a good idea since you can tear into it first before opening your own cluster.

The ebay speedo does look like a good deal. If the speedo is straight up swapped, the odometer will be off right? Can it be programmed?

it keeps the mileage that’s on the speedo. I was saying to buy the eBay speedometer, and replace the part you need on yours. Or look for a place that can change the mileage on the eBay speedo. Match it to yours and you should be good to go.
