So I measured how far I can actually go on one full tank with my '12 5MT. I did carry a saftey can of gas just in case I ran it out completely, (I didn't).
About 70% highway driving and 30% in town, to include a very tall mountain bike on a carrier strapped to the hatch half the time. 350 miles or 563.3km.
How does that figure: good, bad or average?
I have the same car. I get about 33 mpg city/hwy mpg combined. Gets about 35 mpg at highway speeds (70-75). The best I get is about 40 mpg doing steady low rpm cruising, 35-60 mph.
The mileage is very dependent on how aggressively it is driven. I never paid attention to max mileage per tank but I am sure you could get closer to 400 miles per tank if driven carefully.

Ok, I actually was driving a little slower than I normally drive - no more than 5 mph above the speed limit.
No jack rabbit red light starts, either.
So if I drive the car like an old man- what am I saying, I am an old man, then I'll get 400 miles/tank?

Older guy here too. I expect 400 miles/tank is about the best we can achieve in these cars.
I've gotten 400 mile tanks on my 07 manual FIT a few times. But it will only happen under the right circumstances. Namely, a long leisurely highway drive on secondary roads with speeds between 40 and 60 mph. Don't expect it if city or expressway miles are a significant part of your usage.
I haven't done a single tank in one go or where I didn't fill up at some point or the efficiency didn't get messed up by city or very fast highway driving, but I did 380km on half of a tank recently.
If the gauge is reasonably accurate, that should translate to 760km or 472 miles. Which I think makes sense, this trip I averaged 5.2l/100km so a full 42l tank should get me 807km or 500 miles if ran to dry. The conditions would really have to align just right to pull that off though
I'd like to know how much is left in the tank/ miles remaining once the low fuel light goes on. But not enough to drive around with a gas container and wait to run out of gas.
Just curious...why isn't the OP question.."Best gas mileage"?
Who wants to run their gas tank right to the bottom??.....not me.
Fill your tank...reset the odo.
Refill and note the gals and miles.
Divide to find your mpg.....no worries about running out of gas.
It's a different question of the maximum range. You can calculate it of course but you'd need to know the tank capacity.
Plus I just like to minimize my fuel stops 🤷♀️

Feel free try it. The most I've pumpled in was 35.7l (9.43gal) and that's after driving at least 15km with the light on. So almost 100km of remainig rane.
I agree with the above posts. I think we have gotten over 400 miles once or twice and 350 - 380 on a number of occasions. Once the wife ran the tank really low & we put in 9.2 gallons. Normally fill up at 1/2 tank to keep fuel pump OK. Have gotten 42 MPG and over 40 MPG many times. 2013 Base w/ 5-speed manual. Normally get high MPG on road trips.
I'm really new here and only filled up my new -to-me 2009 AT Fit once. It took 9.899 gallons for a rather disappointing 31.7 mpg on a 314 mile tank with 120 miles at highway speed and the rest urban driving. The dash gauge showed 36 something MPG so I guess it's rather inaccurate. This wasn't a fair take on MPG yet as the tank was filled by the guy I bought it from and I don't know how he topped off. BTW the owners manual gives remaining fuel for your Fit when the low fuel light comes on.
I like to keep track of fuel mileage and always register my motorcycles and cars on the Fuelly app and I'll track them for some thousands of miles in order to get a good idea of mileage under various conditions and seasons. A rather nerdy quality in a person I suppose but I justify it by saying my first car, a 1968 MG roadster I got in 1973, did not have reliable fuel tank gauge and often the speedometer/odometer did not work either so I kept track of gas in the tank by days. I had a little notebook to keep track of "DPT" or Days Per Tank. The habit has stayed with me for the last 48 years. Fuelly is my little notebook of the digital age. An unexplained drop in fuel economy can foreshadow a problem with the cooling, fuel delivery, or ignition system. Knowing average fuel consumption has come in real handy later in life when I was a flying general aviation aircraft and riding motorcycles with only trip odometers to track fuel use.
