Replacement for the Fit.
The spec sheet says 180 hp for the turbo.
I'd get the 158 hp NA base model with 6 speed MT . . . but 1) Civics are ugly, 2) the DI thing again, 3) 2932 lbs. Practically speaking, I guess I will have to live with these three quibbles. Or get a Toyota GR86.

With no good alternatives, we dread the day when our '13 Fit Sport Fit needs replacement. I suppose the Ford Escape, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Venue, Kia Soul, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Toyota Corolla Hatchback and Volkswagen Taos would be on our list for review.

No they didn't stop making it, just not selling it in North-America.
A family member replaced a 2010 CR-V with a 2023 HR-V (second generation). It's actually slightly larger than the old CR-V (and the current CR-V is itself larger). The HR-V is higher and wider and is no longer based on the Jazz/Fit.
In general I see very few new gen HR-Vs on the road. The delivery the family member's was delayed last fall for supply issues. I'm wondering if they're still having those issues, or if the HR-V is just not selling. Honda's sales numbers are decent, but after 10 months I've only seen four in the wild, including our family member's.

The new HR-V is still sluggish even with the more powerful engine (the increase in size added a lot of weight), it no longer has the magic seats, it's still made in Mexico, gas mileage is uninspiring - somewhat worse than the previous design, and of course the price has gone up. On the plus side nothing outstanding comes to mind other than it's bigger than it used to be although the extra 10" or so in length will make it harder to park.
Yup, our car buying culture here completely screwed over our budget small car sub-$20k options. It's unfortunate.
