Lock doors with remote key when a door is open

Hello. New member here.

My previous few cars enabled locking the doors when one or more doors were open. While loading or removing things from the back of those cars, I could hit the lock button on the remote key to lock all the doors while one or more doors were open. I'd hear the locking noise and know that no one could open the passenger door and grab something while I was still busy at the back of the car and maybe even walking a short distance away. Maybe I had tools on the back seat or something valuable on the passenger seat, but I'm still moving things in or out of the hatch, and I'm parked where strangers are walking by. Then I'd simply shut the last door (the key is now in my pocket) and know they are all locked without needing to get my finger on that lock button when my hands are full.

I called Honda Motors customer support and was told this was impossible. It was definitely possible with my former cars -- Subaru and Volvo. Is this truly impossible with my 2020 Honda Fit LX?

You're not driving a Suburu or a Volvo now, you're driving a Honda Fit and Honda has programmed it so that all doors must be closed before the lock will work on any door. Simply put, all doors must lock at the same time or no doors lock. It is what it is and as far as I know you can't change it. Why Honda did it this way I don't know and don't care - I don't have a problem with it.

I'm fine with all doors locking at the same time. I want -- need -- all doors to lock at the same time with one or more doors still open.

I'm guessing you don't carry a purse. You might be able to understand better if you had a purse on a front seat while you were moving heavy bags of tools and a compressor out of the back.

Impossible on the Fit. The fact of locking all doors will also turn on the alarm. For this, all doors must be closed. So it'll be impossible to do what you want to do.

Okay. I'll give up on this wish. Thanks, though.

Try This.

When you exit your car,

Open the rear hatch door. Close it but don't close it locked.

Then go around the car doors and manually lock the doors from the inside lock switch.

Now all your doors are locked. Now you can load and unload the hatch cargo area without the worry of someone opening the car door.

I'm very anxious to give this a try, but I'm not sure I understand the bit about "...but don't close it locked." I'll experiment. Thanks for the idea.

Rear Hatch.

Close the rear hatch door. But don't close it locked. Close it to the point just short of locking the hatch door.

I tried Chitown Fit's method today. I was unable to close the hatch door without its latching itself. I tried several times. When the hatch is lowered but not totally shut/engaged, locking the doors with the remote key also locks the hatch. Probably a safety feature so you can drive if you've failed to close it completely -- so it won't fly open on the highway.

However, I discovered I could leave the hatch completely raised, then go to the driver door and use the button on the panel to lock all the doors with the hatch still open.
