Cold Clutch? Shutter?

Anyone else seem to notice a shuttering of the clutch when you roll out to work in the early morning? When the car is warmed up, it seems to go away, but I've been a bit worried about it since it started happening a week after I purchased the car.

I don't drive hard at all, can anyone else relate? Do you think the dealer will fix anything? Oh and this should be obvious, but the transmission is a manual. thanks...

That's normally called "clutch judder" (or perhaps "clutch shudder"). It can have a number of causes, most quite expensive. Do a Google for it. If you take it to a garage be careful because you can end up overpaying or paying for something that doesn't fix it.

shouldn't this be covered under warranty? I don't have more than 1000 miles on the car!

It's probaby the rubbery Motor/tranny mounts. I notice it here an there to. Poly will fix that. Or there may be some aftermarket ones out now.

Mine does it also... I think mine does it because I didnt break in the clutch properly. Its only when its cold though. After I do a few normal take offs it goes away.

What was the mileage on your car when you bought it? If it was test drove before you (other than PDIing) then it was probably beat on without a proper clutch break in.

I think it'll be fine. Unless its REALLY bad.

When it's cold, the friction point change a bit so
maybe it's only that... Mine don't chatter but I
can feel the difference a -20C...

Mine's done it pretty much since I bought it, and like others have mentioned it goes away completely once the car warms up. It doesn't slip or cause grief otherwise, so I'm just gonna leave it alone since it's seems others have it as well.

Ah, well if it's new it's less likely to be something expensive (mounts seems likely) and I would expect it to be fixed for free or maybe even to just stop after a while. Warranties don't normally cover clutches all that long (because they are a consumable and some people just ride them too much) but at 1000 miles you could argue 'unfit for the purpose' if it's bad enough.

Personally I wouldn't ignore it because although the car might be working it's still shaking the transmission and some other component might be suffering from that.
