A rumor of a insight-engine bound fit is surfacing along with Honda reducing weight of the regular fit to get the canadian green rebate.

If the idea is hybrid small cars and diesel large cars, how soon can you get more hybrid versions of your small cars?

In 2009 we will come up with a new hybrid-dedicated model for Europe, Japan and the States. So we'll have the Civic and Accord hybrids, plus this new vehicle.

Will you have a Jazz (Fit) hybrid?

No. We're not thinking of a Jazz hybrid right now.

Why not?

To us, the Jazz has sufficient fuel efficiency with the current gasoline engine. I think we want to develop this model, the Jazz, as it is. Instead of coming up with a hybrid version of the Jazz, we're coming up with a hybrid-dedicated model for 2009. The car size would be about in the same category, but a completely different model.
Yep, it's just a rumor, started by someone other than Honda. The CEO of Honda is pretty clear about the company's position on this idea.

Thanks to kps for the previous post that I pulled over here.

Clipping from another post the other day....

A poster, MetroMPG, over at GasSavers.org wrote to Honda about it, and received a reply --

We have investigated what can be done from a technical point of view to comply with the Government's arbitrary number on a go forward basis. Action will be taken for the 2008 model year even though we still have no clarity from the Government that the number [the rebate threshold] will remain the same.

Or Honda could just import the i-DSI engines to North America...
