So 90mph is a BRICK WALL!!

Thanks, that makes sense. So even if we had a sixth gear, or a tenth for that matter, the Fit just doesn't produce enough power to get past the drag of the wind and the surface friction much more than it does now. The same obstacle (on a smaller scale) that the speed-record types at the Salt Flats are always trying to get around.

Ummm, what does that have to do with it? I had a 88 HP (DIN) Merc W123 diesel that would see well over 90 with no problems and a Citroen DSpecial 103 BHP that would do the same.

I'v got a Jazz 1.4LS CVT with only 83hp. And I easy go up to 150km/t (abouty 93mph). And I've hit 160km/t many times. I have even testet the maximum speed on flat roads and it took some time but I reached 172km/t and then it seemed like there was no more power to get from the car. I tried that test several times and it stopped acelerating at 172km/t. It did not hit a "wall" it just slowly stopped acelerating up to that point.
(Just had to add that I was doing these test on a road with no speedlimit; Autobahn in Germany)
But I had higer speed, but that happened only once (tested only once), it was on a long downhill with about 6% down. I reached 183km/t (113.7mph) and then I had to brake because of slower driving traffic (they was driving at 140km/t )
And in all those test I never got to redline. I was driving the car in D-mode. I did never tried using the paddles in manual mode. Maybe I would hit redline then...

Has anyone actually went over 100mph? I am not talking about street racing as I gave that up years ago when almost going to jail. Although I could have went to jail for my "test", believe me when I say no one was in any danger except myself. I just wanted to "test" the car...So what's everyone else's experiences?

The other day I hit 97 going uphill in D not S (normally I drive about 70) I have not had time to max it out yet and yes I live out in the middle of nowhere im only going to kill my self. My del sol did 114 my dc5 does 155. I am guessing the FIT does around 110.
Unlike my dc5 which is heavily modded for track racing I don't feel safe in the FIT over 90 mph.

In "s" mode, with my wife in the car, I think we hit 105 on the highway. I can't remember if we did have a slight downhill or not, but most of the straights are level. Since this thread is kinda intresting that people claim the A/T fit can't make it over 100mph. I guess I'll have to take mine over 100mph and get a picture of my speedometer. But with my wheels and tires, it won't be accurate of course, but the needle will be well over 100mph.
I've gone over 100mph twice when I had the chance to make a run for it. I can get it up to 90mph easily. Yet I'm only using 87 octane.
All I have is a mockup SRI, and ASpec Axle back.

liar liar, poser rsx on fire.
now go and edit all your post in rsx vs all, rsx performance, and norcal.

Yes, but the poster claimed that a low HP car could not reach such high speeds. You are right, just look at the cd of the two cars I listed...... The boxy Alfa Romeo Giulia Berlina of the 1960s is another prime example of a low HP and fast car with a sliprey body, better than the Porsche 911!

ive hit 115 many times in my AT...though once i hit around 90 it takes some time, and i never use 5th gear for anything at those speeds, the car just doesnt have enough power to make any use out of that gear at those speeds. i have noticed i bog like crazy when i hit 80 and i have to upshift to make anymore power

I have gone up to 95 on the interstate. After 80MPH I get a big jump in performance and can hit over 90 fast with 2 occupants including myself. I do have a K&N filter but I'm not sure if that helps it.
