Don't forget, when you purchase a new car you are more likely to get on the gas more, and probably more city driving as it's something new to show off.. after awhile you may "get used to it" and drive more efficiently.

My point is there are MANY factors that go into MPG and as we know today's engines are much different that before and come fairly set in their levels of all kinds from the factory.

Nope... been driving the same since day one. What's the point of showing off a bone stock Fit Sport... it's still a Honda. I've been making my daily commute to and from work starting the day after I bought the car. No driving style changed, no "showing off" in the city.

The only thing that changed was my mileage numbers per tank, and it jumped considerably around 4-5k miles. Believe what you'd like, but after this car "broke in," my mileage has been for the better.

You took that the wrong way, I didn't imply that you drove around showing off your car. Anytime we do something new, purchase something new etc. our habits are likely to differ in the beginning as we adjust to this change until after the stimulus has been repeated in our brains X number of times. In other words, you may not have even known you were doing it.

Yes I have a degree in psychology.

I have about 6500 miles so far on my fit. Even with the AC on lately my avg MPG (over the 6500 miles) is 32 almost 33mpg. I drive about 72 miles each way for work. I normally Hit 2 congested spots and drive about 80-85mph for the rest. I have not taken any road trips on the weekend, so haven't used a full tank for leisure driving yet. My worst MPG was at a half tank fill up 28.1 mpg and my best has been 35mpg. Most tank averages are in the 31-33 range. I am still waiting on my maintenance minder to come one for the first oil change. Oil life is at 30% right now but has to be getting close to the 20% mark. Planning to go synthetic this weekend even if the light doesn't come on. This is about 2MPG higher than the Scion Xa I had prior doing the same commute.

Also wanted to add that just about all of the gas stations in my area the fuel is either oxygenated, or an ethanol mix. I tend to use the same gas station whenever I can.

I don't floor it everywhere but I do a fair amount. The worst I've gotten is 30mpg and the best is 36mpg. Mix of city and highway.

I drive a lot thru the town and hop on I-95 for about 5-10miles a day and I drive it normal I think, I accelerate fairly fast and take it to around 5-6k before I shift gears at times, not all the time but enough....Im in florida if that helps since we got a lot of heat and Im getting around 260ish-280ish a tank and thats when the gas light comes on. So there is another 2-3 gals left in the tank. ( I know because I check how much it takes to refill the car).

I also have Mugen NR 15x6.5 rims that weigh around 16.5lbs a piece if that also makes a huge differance.

I think the better word to use than showing off is just excited to have. Whenever you buy anything new you are quick to use it...

FYI- This is kind of driving merely lets you keep up with traffic in N. Dallas, it is not aggressive.
That sounds like me, except I rarely go over 75mph on the highway. I'm usually going 65-70 there. Other than than, my lowest tank is 29.5mpg and my highest is 34.5mpg; mostly city driving.

How I shift:
1st to 4000rpm then;
2nd to 3500rpm then;
3rd to 3000rpm then;
4th to 2500rpm then;
5th

It's enough to scoot around town pretty well, without lagging behind everyone. If it's early or late or i don't really care, I sometimes shift at 3000rpm for all gears except 4th-5th (still 2500rpm).
