this morning when i was starting my engine, i got the cold engine signal and it was turned off after 2 minutes or so. Is it common to have a cool engine signal after a night? but it wasn't all that cold last night (50F ish)

Yes ,its normal. It do that even after not using it for couple hours. It's there so engine can warm to normal operating temps before you get on it. Also, allows relubrication thoughout the engine since oil will settle in oil pan after a while. I always let that light clear before driving. It's just good practice on taking care of your car and making sure it'll last 200K+ miles.

Do your maintenance....
Oil/filter change every 5k or so. I've always used Mobile 1 synthetic; it costs more, but I think it's worth it. (I put over 300K miles on one of my cars and it still ran great when I traded it in).
Fuel filter every year.
I flush and fill the cooling system every other year (maybe every year if you're in a really cold or really hot climate)
If your unfortunate enough to own an automatic, change the fluid/filter every year.
Make sure the CV joints are in good shape, chassis lubed, etc.
Never pay to have your rotors "turned". Just replace the pads BEFORE they wear complely out, and replace the rotors with every other set of pads.

There isn't anything wrong with auto's. They are extremely convenient.
I got a manual because it is more fun to drive for me, but I wouldnt say people with autos are "unfortunate"
EDIT: oh and you might want to invest in some sort of protective clear film stuff that goes on the hood, bumper and mirrors. I didn't get this on mine and I wish that I did, because I have looooots of little rock chips on my hood that make me sad.

The manual for my Jazz 1.4LS CVT say that you should change oil every 20.000km (about 12.000miles). If that correct then I think changing oil every 3000 or 5000 mile is a bit early...
I do'nt have a oil-life indicator on my Jazz. It is just stated in the manual how often you should change. And it says every 20.000km or once a year, whichever comes first. I am passing 16.000 km mark soon, and I have had the Jazz since february 2007 (about 8 month).

Hrmmm, I should check mine too, since we have the same 1.3L with the CVT
Once I figure out the Japanese, I will report back

AND... AT's cost more to buy, cost more to maintain, cost more to drive (lower MPG), and have a MUCH higher failure rate than a MT. So, if the convenience of an AT offsets all of that, then I suppose, for you, it's not unfortunate... but it certainly would be for me. Besides, you dont really drive an AT... you just steer it

i dunno, i gotta stick up for all the auto folks out there who don't really care about swapping out their engine and lowering it and everything.
i'm on here because i think it's just an all around great car, even though i have no plans to heavily mod it or anything. if that makes me less of a fitfreak then so be it
