any thoughts about the bumper applique?
any thoughts about the bumper applique?
I'm picking up my 08 blackberry pearl tomorrow morning and I'm wondering if anyone out in forumland has any experience/opinions about the Accessory rear bumper applique. I do a fair bit of hauling with my cars and I'm curious to hear what sort of durability, etc. people have had with them.
well i got it just as protection, i don't really do any heavy hauling (though i did haul about 40 pumpkins home in my fit, don't ask
)
for the hauling that i have done, i'm glad i got the applique because i'm terrified of scratching up the paint. it was extremely easy to install, only took me about 10 minutes.
i got it here for $35:
Honda Fit Accessories - Genuine Factory Honda Accessories, made by Honda for your Honda.

I got it at the time I got the car, and think it was a good decision. Repairing scratches is very expensive - much more than the applique. I've not had any problem with durability or it peeling off, and I wash the car regularly.
Let me check quickly to see if I have any pictures of mine... I also have BBP!
Couldn't find a good shot on the computer. I like the look of it, the black looks great with the paint colour, blends in nicely. That part of the car has dirty streaks all the time - dirty water puddles there and dries. The applique lessens the effect slightly. The one thing I don't like - it doesn't entirely cover the back bumper, there's about 2-3 inches between it and the hatch, so there are dirty puddle marks in behind.
It's good protection, even just for when you're resting things there that you're taking in and out of the hatch.

Seems like it would be good at least as a place to rest your foot while tying your shoe. Scratching up this area is a concern for me, too, but I wish I could find a protective applique that was wide enough to cover the bumper better. Some crafty person on this forum should make and sell them. Might make enough money for a car payment!
I had the same concerns, and bought my applique from an eBay seller. It looks exactly the same now as it did when I installed it a year ago, except for the Zeta Products Stainless Steel Bumper Protector that I installed right on top of it. Will post a photo tomorrow. Woops, forgot that I have a photo:

I haul BIG dogs, lumber & building supplies, tools (nail guns, table saws, luggage, etc), and did not trust mere tape to protect the delicate paint-on-plastic bumper surface- hence the additional stainless steel trim piece. I did not remove the tape applique because the stainless steel trim is smaller in size than the applique. I have looked for over a year for anything that does not harm the looks of the car, but does protect more of the bumper surface with more effectiveness. Haven't found anything better yet.
Appearance tip-- when you install the applique, you will find that road dust collects quickly on the rough tape surface and looks bad. If you put a coat of Turtle Wax Ice Polish on the entire bumper including over the tape, there will be NO white residue on the tape, but the dust collection will not be as bothersome.

Did you put on the Zeta one? If yes could you post a picture of it on your car. I have a MR too and would like to see what it looks like on
one before I buy it.
Thanks,

When I had 3M film installed on my hood, I also had them put it on the top of the back bumper. It covers the whole area from where the 'cut out' - basically the whole stepped area. Very durable and inconspicous as well.
