Shifting into 2nd occasional grind?

I have also noticed the surge/hesitation from 1st to 2nd, but so far, I have not noticed it from 2nd to 3rd. Based upon my limited experience, it happens for a short while after the "cold" engine lite goes out, but goes away when the car has reached finally reached normal operating temperature, if that makes any sense.
Right, thats exactly what happens to mine. Once I've shifted up to 4th and back down to 1st approaching the stop light near my house, it's usually gone.
