Roadtrip mileage

I just returned from a roadtrip last night. we took our '07 milano red sport automatic from orange county to sacramento and back. we had 4 adults with luggage and some hills near pyramid lake. we averaged about 35 mpg. not the best gas mileage, but i was impressed considering the extra weight and conditions.
our best fuel economy so far is just a hair over 40 mpg on a trip out to palm springs.

Overall, I'm very impressed by our Fit. My '01 Impreza RS is getting around 25 mpg almost all city. i'm hoping to improve that. I just bought it a couple months ago and it is at 77k miles. i'm going to change the sparkplugs and PCV, and possibly the O2 sensor.

Also, while we were on the road, we got some thumbs up and waves from fellow Fit owners! Lots of Fit Love.

I'm just curious here, but since you don't completely fill up your tank, how do you calculate your mileage?

i seldom use any debit/credit cards, but i did when i drove do junction, and calculated it that way on the full tank. but the rest, i have to estimate based on how much i put in the tank. so...

i put gas in my tank, it gets 2/3 full, and i say, let's get 200 miles from this.

35mpg on a loaded Fit is pretty good!! Ive taken my VBP to Colorado from California twice so far and I got about 37-38mpg with just myself, my beagle, and luggage. Im guessing I'd get more but the uphill sections sap some of that mpg. Damn gravity!
