But doesn't the front windshield fog up on cold days there? It sure does here in Minnesota. We're talking about the climate control knob here, not the rear defrost pushbutton. If you have that knob set to either of the 2 rightmost positions, you're using the A/C......
I think you should get off the A/C theory. Even if he uses it as much as possible, A/C uses less gasoline than people think. In fact, in highway speeds, using A/C is better than opening your window for gas mileage.

Hey all, I really like my Fit, but my mileage kinda sucks too. I was fully expecting to get like 35 mpg but I'm getting about 27 thus far.

My car is very new. I've got 675 miles on it now. I'm on my third tank of gas. What kills me is that when my gas gauge is halfway I've only got 125 miles on the trip odo!!!! I feel like I'm riding my GSXR or something.

First tank was 29, second fill up was 26....wtf! I actually drove EASIER on the second tank. I used the same exact pump both times. I stuck it in, put it on full blast and stopped when it clicked off by itself.

I also put the tire pressure up to 45 psi (max is 51). I'm driving it pretty easy overall. I will get on it now and then, but no more than once or twice a tank. The only thing I can think is that it's my driving. I do all city driving, and it's very cold here in Ohio right now. I get up and go in the mornings. Drop my kid off at school then off to work, maybe 12 miles total, some idling.

I'm going on a 200 mile one way trip this next week. Hopefully I'll get some better numbers then, and as the car breaks in, and when I switch over to full synthetic.

I suggest staying with conventional. BAsed on the 27 number, I assume you are driving an automatic. That seems to be the magic number for AT.

Synthetic does nothing unless your car is old. My 1st oil change was synthetic, and my mileage didn't improve...i think it got worse... My 2nd oil change was back to synthetic, and there was a dramtic increase.

I'm planning on staying with dino oil for my very first oil change. Then at about 6,000 miles switch over to synth. Not necessarily for mpg as for long term engine life.

Still better than my truck when I'd be getting in the single digits at these temps, LOL
Just thought I'd post a quick update. I filled up today and calculated that this most recent tank yielded 28.7 MPG. This includes driving during the really cold temps I referred to above (and all the stuff that goes along with that), so I'm not displeased at all. If it wasn't for that week, I estimate the mileage would've been in my normal range of 32-33 MPG

r.c.y.k. has your mileage improved any?

Stay with 87 octane, and make sure you do the "no ac w/ defrost" mod. that should boost your mileage.

That may have other negative consequences down the road. The manual said the A/C should be used about once a week to ensure parts of the system keep themselves lubricated. The A/C can work down to freezing (32F, 0C) temperatures. Using the defrost at least exercises the system during the colder months.

It doesn't look like you're using AC, but you are....

There is DIY thread on how to disable this behaviour by disconnecting a plug on to the air control switch underneath the dash (very easy to do). If you do this mod, the AC will come on only if the AC button on the dash is selected.
Just out of curiosity, can anyone confirm if the Canadian Fit does this as well?

I know the NA Fits should all be the same, but there are some differences out there. One of them is the TMPS that the Canadian Fit doesn't have.

Mine is almost at 1500 OP and I went from 370 then 399 and now around 420-425 is my guess for the next fill up.

Give the engine time to break in.

Do you have very short commutes? I do and I don;t think it helps at all. Had the car Since december 21st and I'm at 1480kms now. I also drive it 6 days a week...

I'm getting low 20s MPG here in Calgary, normally it's around 370KM for a 35 litre fill up.

I'm almost at 3000KM on my 5AT Sport, tire pressure is around 37psi. Shell 87 for fuel.

Pretty much all city driving... 8km slow rush hour traffic(takes 15-20 minutes) in the morning and another 8km in the afternoon. As for driving style... pretty light on the pedal, the engine rarely goes over 3k rpm, and somewhat coast to red light when the traffic allows.

Anyhow, went on a Caglary-Banff trip last weekend with 1 passenger and somewhat hilly highway. My speed was constant at 110km/h.

That got me 259KM out of a 14 litre fillup, which is 43 MPG ... quite surprising comparing to my low 20s in city.

I guess city driving really hurts my mileage

I think it's the short trip. I have something very similar and get just a bit more since I have a 5spd also in Calgary.

I went to Canmore once and that too my tank from 27 mpg to 33mpg total.

I think if we drove for 20-30 mins every morning and night it would be better. My commute takes about 10-15 mins and the engine barely has time to warm up.
