In laws are en route. Invasion is imminent!

All joking aside, they are good people. Will probably hit up the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville this weekend. You know it's a cool town when their city hall includes a racing museum AND moonshine distillery.

Have an arborist coming sometime this weekend to look at a bunch of our trees. Lots of damage from the storm we had. I should be out cutting up downed trees with my chainsaw, but I'm leaning towards letting mother nature do the cleaning over time.

huh, fell asleep after getting up at 4:30am..lol 7:30am jumped out of bed thinking damn it, i need to be out motoring my R. only to check my camera feeds from outside that the ground was all wet from frost. so i said fak it, and just went downstairs, brewed up a nice cup of starbucks and had my pancakes.

going to swap out the floor mats on my GTI this am and once the roads dry will take the R out for a short spin. then lunch with the wife, and heading out to the tint guy.

later pm going to swap out the GK's floormats to the husky's.
got my tracking number for the STI's weathertechs.

hope u all have a great saturday!

oh yah, so those folks that were struggling to take their cars to the gas station to get air for their tires, just get a 12v or 120v air pump you can keep in your car.

yah, i was kinda surprised to know some folks didnt know they sell these things but if you didnt know here they are:

here's the 12v you can hook up to your car. make sure your engine is running while using not to drain the battery. i have this in my GK, STI, and R. i should get one for my GTI too.. but i have an older one that works perfectly so..

Amazon Amazon

120v (hook up to your garage outlet or neighbor's outlet lol)..
if you look around some will offer auto-shut off when the psi reaches a certain pressure.

basic one:

Took the motorcycle out for a decent ride yesterday with the GF. It was still a bit warm for my liking (~85°F) but when you're going 80mph its not so bad...just when you're stopped it's a bit annoying.

Today hopefully wash the Miata, then tomorrow wash and possibly detail the Civic depending how I feel. Just want a reason to break out my new variable speed polisher haha.

Do any of you guys use a "California Duster" to keep your cars clean-ish between washes? Was at Costco yesterday and they were on clearance for $5 and was considering getting one so I could have one in the miata AND the civic. Already have one in the civic.

Lastly, pssssh kenchan and his fancy electric pumps for maintaining PSI...I use a bike pump....get my arm workout.

https://www.amazon.com/Topeak-Blow-Sport-Floor-Pump/dp/B002B7LTBY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1509202209&sr=8-3&keywords=joe+bike+pump https://www.amazon.com/Topeak-Blow-Sport-Floor-Pump/dp/B002B7LTBY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1509202209&sr=8-3&keywords=joe+bike+pump

But seriously...thats what I use because I have it for my bicycles haha. Plus its black and yellow to match my motorcycle...and yellow = fast! I do have one of those 12V pumps...but always forget to use it and hopefully will get an air compressor one of these days.

I have a California Car Duster. Used it frequently when I lived in FL and it worked great!

It's too dusty/dirty where I live now, so I only use it to get the dust off my garage car that never leaves. Somehow the thing gets dusty even under the car cover.

The yarn, or whatever material it is, is wax impregnated or something. It can leave small streaks if used on a black car when the duster is new. Seems to get better with age.

I would definitely pick one up for $5. Especially to use on the bike. Works great on the gauge cluster area.

shinjari- haha at my air pumps. yah, i mean hand pumps do work but it can take A LOT of pumps vs a bicycle tire so its definitely a good workout. lol sounds like you're bike is doing well and wow, 85F out there! i was sitting at like 33-34F this am, thus all the frost. enjoy your warm weather!

is that variable speed polisher a random orbital? if it's a direct drive id be very careful with it..(psssst GAFIT!..)

caldusters are a good tool to have. i use it if the car is clean under the dust and know i have ample sealant/wax on the surface. i mean if the car sat overnight, best you use a QD to remove dust in this case as you are dragging the dust across the panels and the dust has probably began adhering to the finish due to dew.

i also have an old Griots dry mf duster which has no paraffin wax like calduster. i use that after my drives on my hobby car to get most of the dust off, followed by full QD. but again, i am dragging the dust so i go SUPER easy on the pressure. just barely enough the strands are making contact to the finish and removing dust.

depending on moisture and heat, caldust can leave streaks even after break-in (placing it on old news papers for weeks) so i prefer the dry duster especially over glass.

so a lot of folks ask me wat i use to dust the interior.. i use a lint-free mf towel and give it like 2 mists of QC (my choice is SpeedShine) and use that to wipe down everything. starting off with the gauges and nav screen, then around all the glossy plastics, then dash, shifter area, center console, steering column, then give it another mist and do the steering wheel, shift knob, door panels, around the seat frame, etc. (want to do the lenses first so u dont accidentally scratch it with grit you might pickup)..

then same goes for leather seats, just a damp MF towel with some SpeedShine.
i do this every weekend.. like this am when i swapped out the floor mats on my GTI and GK.
my GTI, R are both officially ready for winter.

GK needs to get its oil changed and swap to snows when it gets a tad bit colder..

oh yah, one thing i forget to note when i drive rentals during the week during my biz trips... i HATE the faux leather/plastic most oems use on the steering wheels. with all the people using the cars, they tend to end up sticky and yuk! disgusting!

vs my steering wheels on my GTI and R which have a dry, non-sticky feel. so nice. i thought i accidentally scratched my GTI's steering wheel the other day when my fingers slipped off the paddles and my finger nails, which were a tad bit too long at the time, caught the steering wheel..

but luckily per inspection this am, there was only a very faint mark on the back side, no tear or anything and not visible from the driver or passenger seat so i was very glad.

lots of win today, tint turned out perfect this time. my guy said it seems there was some contamination left on the glass causing the small cascaded bubbles. and how the film didnt want to stick to the glass even after heat and pressing down (wat i tried last week too) he quickly said let's redo it. the factory glass came so frikken dirty i dont blame him.

im real happy now and my tint guy continues to be the best in town.

he quoted me 400 to do the full xpel hood clearbra. might do it. he also complimented me how well i did the bumper clearbra. and gave me a few pointers i will use on my next install. very cool.

i got my wolfsburg decal so slapped it on the rear glass. and took the R for a quick spin. so nice this car. luv this hatch.

oh yah, programmed the soundactor volume to only sound at 50% instead of 60% i had before. no more faint howling noise i can hear as it gets drowned out by tire road noise at cruising speeds, yet the car still sounds good.

car is back on the battery manager to get the battery charged... thats one thing i dont like about tint install how they need to roll the windows up and down without the engine on.
