Some users are reporting only 27ish with the hybrid and 24ish with the non-hybrid.

Those that get good mileage keep the speeds low. I think it's profile has it in boost to maintain 70+ which kills fuel mileage. Just a guess based on other's in it's class. A 2.0 liter motor in a 4,100 lb, not very aerodynamic vehicle probably has it in boost at higher speeds.

None of that would bother me much though as long as I knew it going in. Can either go 60-65 and get good fuel mileage or go 80 and pay more. I'd start the trip with low speeds in mind and then set the cruise at 78+ and just live with it.

yah sounds about right. i too wouldn't care as long as the tank is more than 13 gallons.. do you know?

so i got to the office in my GTI had a nice drive. i cked the side of the car that kicked up something causing the damage on my wheel last night. sure enough got a 8" gash on the door. lol

i think i should just trade the car in when i get the NX. bad luck one after the other on this car. hahaha!

15.9 gallon fuel tank. I'm guessing that means about 350 miles between fill ups. Not quite our Golf that goes 400 miles with plenty of fuel to spare, but I'd say it's enough.

I'm not sure there would be a lot of need for your GTI if you had an NX. The GTI is certainly a lot more fun to drive, but you'd have two other vehicles for that. I'm sure the NX will be more comfy, quieter, and better in inclement weather.

hey thanks GAFIT! 350 miles is perfect. my GTI i'm filling around 250 miles, i've done 275 near empty. it has like a 11 or 12 gal tank. i don't remember. it's a pita having to fuel every week so this is good.

i agree on the GTI. it is a fun little car but not FUN! like my other cars. And with all this bad luck since purchase i don't want to deal with it no more..

alright, forget the relaxing day i was suppose to have.. busy as hell again today at work. got a lot done though. got super sidetracked could only finish one of the 2 presentations i needed to prepare for next week. lunch was fun though, had some chinese.

got home in my GTI, will work on the scratched up rear door tomorrow. luckily got a slight warmish day tomorrow so with a little heatgun action i think the touchup paint will stick well. will also apply another coat of graphite metallic on the OZ wheel where it chipped.

my wife's making us a feast tonight.. she makes some killer hambagu.

on the menu today.. pulling out my R for a morning drive , going to work on the touch up on the GTI, polish out the large scuffing on the rear door as well.

then take my wife out to lunch, run a few errands in the pm, and that is about all for today. will listen to some tunes on the Bose and watch tv rest of the evening.

have a good saturday everyone!

did a quick check on the R while i unplugged the umbilical cord from the battery. at about 2300miles on the odo the oil burned about 200ml (at about 4/5 of dipstick) so looks like things look good for now. added some liquimoly. my GTI burned a little more when new.

No loss of oil from our Golf in the first 5,000 miles. It probably got less short trips than your cars see though. It generally gets started and then driven 40 miles to my wife's work.

my STI ate a little oil too in the beginning. from about the 1st oil change things settle down. like my GTI has not burnt any oil since the 10k oil change i did earlier this spring.

actually my weekend drives are about 80-100 miles before i shut them down but i wind them up to redline real nice so could be that too. not sure but its been normal for me over the many new cars ive bought to burn some oil early on.

motored my R this am, had a good time. came home and did the touch up work on the GTI's door and removed the long scuff mark using my RO. spot applied some hydromax. turn out real nice. also did another thick coat of touch up on the rear wheel that got chipped. heated it up some and blew warmish-hot air for a good 4-5 min so it should set pretty soon.

going to pull out the GTI in a bit to take the wife out to lunch.

My S2000 being new must explain why it burns oil.

Not quite broken in 148k miles from new.

Nice work on the touch up!

Every car I've owned has been a bit different with oil consumption. My Lincoln burns about 1/2 quart every 5,000 miles.

mike- haha!

thanks, GAFIT. went out with my wife for some lunch at a Mexican place.. burrito was sooo~ good.

i pointed to my wife where i did the repair on the GTI's door. she was looking for it literally 2-3ft away and could not tell where i did the repair.. so i say it is a PASS (good). i was lucky the part that got the huge scratch was near the bottom of the door.

so for the last 3 hrs ive been listening to tunes on my new Bose headphones. these are super comfy and i think the drivers softened up a bit as it lost a little bit of the harsh edge it had early on. speakers need to be broken in too.

really enjoying this pair. i still think my sony's are better overall in audio (sony has more punch and clarity), anc, and features, but as far as comfort, these bose feel incredible. i can honestly forget i have them on. they are so light and fit perfectly on my pumpkin head.

Meeting a guy to buy his spoon front strut bar this morning. Not positive I can get it to fit with the turbo plumbing, but I'll give it a try.

Every car we own is filthy right now. Hoping to have some time to wash cars this afternoon.

motored the R this am.. such an awesome car. i luv it. fun to drive, MT, plenty of power and traction, smooth driving dynamics, good looks, nice interior, very nice stereo system, all the latest gizmo's id want, and not so important but plenty of room to carry my family and gear if needed.

funny thing i recently noticed was that the R's rear foot well is like 20% wider (forward/aft) than my GTI. i know they are different in some areas but was scratching my head the other day. my kids can get in/out of the R no problem but the GTI they sometimes scuff the seat backs with their shoes which pisses me off. pretty weird. i dont think the truck is smaller on the R either. might be a MT/DSG driving position thing.

Could it be different front seats in the R v. the GTI?

A little envious of your stable ken, I wish I had a fun car to zoom around in today.
