Rattles cannot be fixed - don't buy a FIT
I belong to a G37 forum just because i like to lurk around and see what they have to say about there amazing rides. I see some rattling complaints once in awhile. Belive it or not more then i see them here. Now thats a good car for 16k!

If you had been reading FitFreak that long you would have read the thread on the VERY SIMPLE fix for the wiper problem.... takes about 10 minutes to switch the wiperblade end to end PROBLEM SOLVED.
Yeah to Terry,
i noticed my gas mileage isnt good either , but not EVERY fit has a problem . It is kinda messed up telling people not to buy a fit just cause yours is messed up.
Don't get me wrong , everyone has their opinion and i have respect for every individual .

first off, anyone that brings their car into a shop more than two times for the same problem is an idiot for bringing your car back to the same shop. and a month? were they working in slow motion? i never had a rattle in the dash until i installed loads of aftermarket suspension parts. but if a little rattle is going to make you sell your car, you have some serious OCD issues.
and who the f*ck offroads in a fwd car?
put brain in gear before speaking.

my $27k subaru forester has more rattles than my fit. my buddies evo(s) have more rattles than my fit. almost every vehicle from the "big 3" have documented "below average" reliability ratings, as well as some of the worst gas mileage ratings...so, i guess add all those to your list of "DO NOT BUY" list.
maybe look into a goldwing?

Your expectations are too high for a car that costs well below $20k fully loaded. I can't think of a car that'll meet your expectations.
Windshield wipers can be changed | of course it's noisy inside, it's an economy car! | the AT searches for the right gear so much because the Fit doesn't have much torque to work with.

about the AT. if you don't like the way an automatic transmission shifts, get a car with a manual transmission so YOU control when to shift.
Have you replaced your windshield?
Hey Terry, have you by chance had your windshield replaced? My Fit was the quietest car I had ever owned until a cement truck showered mine with rocks. After glass replacement, my car had a periodic rattle in the dash area. Two months later, a semi threw a up a "golf ball" sized rock, and that cracked my second windshield. During that replacement, I watched the mobile glass installer do his thing. When he removed the old glass, I noticed that the dash is insulated from the body with a Styrofoam type material. Some of that material was apparently pushed askew during the first install. While the installer was prepping the area for the new glass, I casually reached over and re-situated the material where I thought it would do the most good. Now on my third windshield, the noise has disappeared. BTW, two weeks after that install, a small stone was kicked up by yet another semi and that chipped my third glass. The present damage is small and obscure so I am not changing this one. Plus the fact that I don't want to pay for yet another "eye brow" tint. If and when I do have a fourth windshield replaced, I'll keep a watchful eye on the Styrofoam placement!
As for your wiper chatter, try this: remove the blade, reverse it, then replace it. It worked for me.
As for the automatic transmission searching for a gear, try driving manually in "S" mode. I drive like this 98% of the time. The other 2% is in "D" mode when I have to drive and chew gum at the same time.

Hey, Terry, sorry your Fit isn't working out for you.
Like I always said when I was skydiving and people would ask me why someone would jump, or how I could do something like that, it isn't for everybody. If the Fit isn't right for you, there are lots of other cars.
I live on a semi-paved road, not smooth but not just dirt either. I routinely go 50 - 60 mph in certain spots on this road, and I live a mile from the place where I get on my road. That's two guaranteed miles, every time I leave home, of relatively harsh conditions roadwise.
My Fit has 25,000 miles, no rattles, and usually gets over 34 mpg with mixed driving.
The auto trans "hunts" under certain conditions because it is a 5-speed automatic, and the gear ratios are therefore closer together than a 3- or 4-speed auto's gears. Couple that fact with the small engine, and it will "hunt" on a slighter incline than will a 1966 Mustang with a 289. It's just physics. I don't mind it, it's trying to help me get good mileage.
It's Good Will "Hunting".
And to any three-pedal boy-racers who want to call auto-owners names, get ready, it will soon be time to be an adult. I have done many years of manual transmission driving, and I made an informed decision to go with an auto this time around. Glad I did, and I get better highway mileage with my auto than you do with your manual. Of course it's less fun, but the Fit is still a fun car, regardless of transmission type. Most driving is done for work, for shopping, and for visiting. Does every mile have to be a pretend-race? Geez! Both types of transmissions have good reasons for their existence. Maybe that's why they make both.

I can't really think of anything that hasn't been said. It just sounds like the Fit isn't a good fit for you (yes I mean the pun)
And I'm sorry to say I have to take the idea that you know a large number of people that are experiencing similar complaints with a grain of salt. A car doesn't make the 10 best by car and driver and a great buy recommended by consumer reports just by chance. And I just have to defend the Honda name after such an unwarranted statement as "they do not care". Their safety features and amenities both saves thousands upon thousands of lives and made driving just a little more fun, comfortable, and worthwhile for many for decades. This is a b-segment economy car under 20K - you can't expect perfection. And honestly there are plenty of 20K+ cars on the market with more troubles then the Fit.
Not to knock other makes (and thus drop to the level you've come to) but drive a 1st scion xB or xA if you want to know what real road noise is at speed. Maybe you got one of the rare Lemons out there - if that's the case, it's certainly no justified reason to refute Honda, it's reputation, and an entire production run of one of their models.
With all that said - I respect your opinion, and I hope you'll respect ours. Given the uproar your posts have caused it seems your problems are in the minority. 'Nuff said.

it's not as quiet as a Lexus, but come on.... for the price, it's an incredible car. Mine has a few rattles, but so has every other car i've ever owned. At 70MPH it's very quiet (IMO), at 80MPH it gets a bit buzzy, but again, what do you expect... it's an inexpensive car with an itty bitty engine. The AT hunts for gears by design... it's trying to keep the MPG up... again, it's a 1.5 liter, the power band is small and torque is limited (putting it nicely), so it needs to shift around a lot to keep performance and economy balanced... I do the same thing in my MT.
Jerky windshield wipers
... you're kidding, right? The car's not perfect, but for the $... it's about as close as it gets.
Anyone who thinks a $15k car should be better than a Fit needs a big dose of reality.
Terry, sorry to hear your Fit isn't working out for you.
For the record my Fit has zero rattles (we have some VERY bumpy roads up here from frost jacking) and I have on occasion taken it camping down non-paved roads as well. the wipers on my car work well with no jerkyness and also my car is a very reasonable noise level, one might even describe it as quiet on the highway. Finally my car is averaging +35mpg in the city on every tank, +40 on the highway.
I am surprised these things are getting to you considering this is a lower budget car. It isn't going to ride like a high end americain car and to be honest I wouldn't want it too. The feeling of this car is very direct and it gives a lot of driver feedback, this is a good thing for anybody who wants an involved driving experience.
If you are stuck with the car, start with trying to target things that you would like to see fixed. Any local audio shop will know exactly how to put an end to your rattles, the wiper fix is an easy one, try changing your tires to a comfort brand to reduce highway noise. As far as the tranny goes... well you should have bought a Stick-Shift if you don't like how Auto's sound. This auto is the same as every other auto on the market (at least for this budget).
A final word of advice, please don't come onto the forum and accuse all Honda Fit's of being junky and crappy. You may have some specific problems, but that doesn't give you the right to label the entire model brand, especially when you browse through some of the positive feedback threads on here. I would say 99% of people are happy, if you use the forum correctly you will be able to fix most of you problems.
Cheers

Thats being a good nazi, but not realistic. That is what forums are for, to address problems, not blindly act like your car is perfect. Give me a break!
