Did you trade in a car when you bought your Fit?
I just so happened to, and I've kept my eyes open...
it's finally been listed on the dealer's website. For $1000 less than I paid for it 1.5 years ago as a certified pre-owned.
I feel really bad for anyone who buys it at that price, for the following reasons:
1. The car is almost two years older than when I bought it...but at least my purchase included a 2 year warranty. The car no longer has that. It does have 1.5 years of wear on the tires that were brand new when I bought the car.
2. When I bought it, I didn't realize that turning off the car would wipe all the radio presets and settings in the poorly installed head unit (ie - you can see bare metal).
3. They took nice pictures of it...after a rainstorm, which hides the fact that there's an oil stain on the canvas top from my garage door opener.
4. They mention that everything works... and I guess it does, except for the fact that the alarm system had to be deactivated, re-activated, and then de-activated in order to unlock the doors.
5. I hope the new owner doesn't plan to check the oil, because not long after I bought it, I noticed a hairline crack developing on the plastic bit that holds the dipstick in.
6. There are some dings that you will never notice (I sure didn't when I bought it!) until you get the car home.
So when people ask me why I traded my car in versus selling it myself, I'd much rather have given this car to a dealer, who is already making a nice amount of money off of me, than to sell it to an individual that wants a nice car for their hard earned $$$.
As a postscript, I figured out from CarFax that I was the 4th (!) owner of a 2001 model year vehicle.

my 98 civic was actually totaled in a car accident, so once my insurance inspected the car they gave me 5K. so that was my down for my new fit. im pretty sure if i tried to trade it in i wouldnt have received as much.

I have a 98 accord and was thinking of trading it in but I realized that I would get a bit more if I just sold it to someone in my town. between the sale of the car and about 1800 that I would be saving up, I should have a decent sized down payment to keep my payments low
peace,

Traded in my '05 xB for the Fit. It only had an exhaust, but it was pristine with only 17500 on it after near two years ownership. Got $1000 less than what KBB/NADA listed it was worth, but I got a refund back from the extended warranty that made up the difference. Yeah, I couldve sold it myself, but I bought my Fit the day they were released and it was in the color I wanted and MT, so I don't mind too much. In retrospect, seeing how hard the MT's and Fits in general were to get in the beginning, had I waited to sell the xB it'd been months before I'd have got my Fit.

traded in a 90 sentra se-r; had it for 16+ years; 152K miles; paid $1500+ in repairs last year; a/c and radio were broken; head-liner was sagging; occassionally slipped out of 5th gear. i think i got the floor mats for it.
kinda regret trading it in though. got bit by the mod bug after getting my fit. sentra wouldve be a great project. oh well.

Handed over my 1999 Saturn SL2, 140,000 miles on it. When I purchased it 3 years ago, it had 60k on it. It is the crappiest car I've owned, and I wasn't expecting $200 for it. Dealer gave me $1000 because they saw that if they did, I'd walk out of there with the Fit (and I did).

I'm about to trade in a 2005 honda crv se for the fit. Looking to get about 15 grand for it. Love the truck just to much in gas and my payment is in the very high 300. Fit payments would be about 170 a month. Banking almost 210 for my little girl furture.

The only thing you need to consider when trading in a car is how much is that convenience worth to you? More likely than not, you will get more $$$ for the car if you sell it yourself. But it can take a long time in some cases. I didnt trade in my '91 Integra with 205K miles because the dealer would have only given me $500 for it. (I sold it for $2K but it took about 5 months)
That being said, if you are one of those folks that need something right here, right now, than chances are you will be pulling you hair out waiting to sell your car and it might be safer for you mentally to trade it in and take the hit on the price.

I am currently looking to sell my '99 Civic hatchback. It is like new inside and out with 108,000km (67,500miles) The dealer offered about $4200 for the trade in and told me how much I could sell it for. Dealerships will mark it up by at least $2000. Im selling it for $6500 obo.
Once I find a buyer, I will be using the sale of my civic as a trade in towards the Fit...this will save some $ off the taxes.

I traded in my 1996 Ford Ranger XLT with soft cover on the bed, bed liner, window visors. The interior of the truck was like brand new. I took really good care of it and it was in excellent running condition for being 11 years
old. However lots of damage on the outside from an F1 tornado and the victim of a hit and run while it sit in front of my house. The insurance wanted to total it but decided to give me just enough to fix the tail light and repair the drivers door. The Honda dealership gave me $1000.00 which I thought was pretty fair for a 11 year old truck with over 100,000 miles on it and all that damage. I had really thought about keeping the truck so when the weather was bad I could garage the Fit but the insurance for both was going to be too expensive. If I had it to do again, I would have kept the old truck and made it work.
