newbe help

Just got my 2008 Sport 5 speed and had some newbie questions. I did search 1st, but was not able to find the detail I was hoping for.

re/ scanners to read real time MPG and other eng/car variables. Was wondering if a lap top solution has been used. ie cable and software. In any case if a user that has measure real time mpg using a scanner can help out with specific name brand and model that would be great

Also the INFO button on the radio. I'm wondering if it's even working. I live in SE Fla and I looked at ever FM station and none displayed anything. I also tried a number of CD including the most current Dave Mathews. Anyone seen there's work and if yes what should I expect.

One last quick one. What would you expect for miles (at the 1/2 fuel tank mark) when on the way to say a 35mpg run or any other mpg figure? Been taken it easy on tank one. I know from reading on here the fuel tank level gauge is not linear, but I'm at 3/4 tank and 140 miles just now.

Getting excited having just migrated from a 10 year relationship with a 1998 3/4 ton Suburban that got 14mpg Thanks Paul

the first couple of tanks the ECU is trying to adapt to your driving
style and also the working environment so it's not going to be very
reliable as far as using the scan gauge..imho. im sure it'll give you
mpg numbers but it'll fluctuate too much.

i recommend just keeping track of the gallons you put in and the
miles you get out of it.

if you can repeat the mpg a few times that's pretty much your
steady mpg for your car and driving style. personally i do 37mpg.

as far as the INFO button, it worked for me on MP3 file CDR's
showing titles, folders, etc. haven't messed with it while the radio
was on... nor cassette tape mode.

on the cassette tape mode.

congrats on your car.

Welcome. I average about 150/165 mile's for half a tank.I would get more, but I live in Florida too(clearwater area)and I usually have a big SUV or truck barreling behind me at night with there high's on. I would say if you have the same problem in your area, you will only get around the 150 MPG for half the tank. If you have anymore question's about your Fit,this is the site to get them answered.

WELCOME AND CONGRATS!

-As was said before check out the scangauge product (there are also numerous helpful threads here with it)
I dont know of any software configuration/connection that would yeild those numbers on a laptop (doesnt mean it doesnt exist though )

-With regards to the info display I thought it only had to do with MP3s, as when I have played them in the car the titles would just automatically start scrolling. (not a difinitive answer...but I hope it in some way helps)

-I have found the gas gauge about as accurate as me predicting how much gas I will have after a meal. I have seen it as low as 140 at the halfway mark to 180 at the halfway mark on just my car! (with actually little difference in the total MPG's....but I have some surprises to come I'm sure ) A student of mine was over 180miles at just 3/4 tank! and then it plummeted to 1/3 tank the next day....its black magic, I am pretty sure of it...haahaaa

Congrats on the purchase. If I didn't get silver it would've been blue. Very nice color but silver was on the lot.

I'm on my first tank still with only about 100 miles. Gauge is about 1/3 of the way down. Was hoping it'd move slower but it seems like little consistency here. Because the local dealership filled, no way to know if they topped it up, but the it was on full when I drove off. Thinking I'll top it off today so I have a consistent reading from one station.

mg

hmm... well when i have a full tank. at the halfway mark i normally get about 150-180 average. i get about 300 miles out of a tank with a heavy foot.
which normally comes out to be around 33 mpg. with a light foot i average about 38 around town and freeway.

WOW
Thank YOU for the Great feedback and extra nice comments.
Thank you one and all for the nice intro to your BB.
Made it to 1/2 tank at 185 miles

I called on ordered my ScanGauge II today. The owner/designer Ron was very nice and spent as much time as I needed with my normal stupid questions..lol

One item I'd like to pass on. He suggested that the avg mpg would be better if you lift off the gas in gear when you see a light and ahead and want to slow down. This is as opposed to what I had already started to do, which was toss her in Neutral and coast. He said the why was the ECU programing on most new cars is very aggressive and will kill the injector fuel flow on coast down. Of course at idle in neutral it has to be using some fuel. Make sense? I apologize if my effort to help out is a well known deal.

I'm trying to gauge what kind of deal I got on my Fit.
2008 Sport M5 with Honda Fit carpet mats pin stripes and a tank of gas
MSRP was
$15,905
The dealer Amount paid was
$15,625 with all the stuff they dream up
Fla Tax was $962 and tag/title was $110
$16,700 out the door.

I have know idea what dealer cost is but it looks like it was at least
under MSRP
How much did I leave on the table? I can take it honest

BTW
I jacked the tire pressure to 45 the 1st day and have been keeping an eye on the tire temp after driving. No issues so far. No real idea if this will hurt tire life but it is reported to help MPG. To be honest, I like the feel of it with the hard tires, it's what I would call a little more aggressive and makes it feel like it's on a tracks when making the higher speed turns.

I thought I got a good deal on my Fit(silver/auto./no carpet's)17,500 O.T.D.Good job on getting that price for your Fit.The only problem I found with the nitrogen filled tire's from BMW was,if you get a flat, they said it has to be refilled with more nitro. So if on a trip and only have access to regular air then what? Best tank of gas so far was the first,250/300 HALF A TANK.It's fun to save.

Thanks Mr Ball. That cat picture is unreal.

IMHO
I know I little bit about the Nitrogen in the tire deal. Other than the value of being DRY and free of any moisture, if done right the GAS does help the thermal expansion over regular pump air. IMHO it's over rated as far as cost value. I few racers at the track have use it They use of a industrial sized bottle to fill. We have watched how it does over time with larger 16 x 16 drag slicks and that is what the basis is for my comments. Not at all trying to put it down for you just an opinion.

That's unreal millage your getting. I hope to finish up this 1st tank and see 30+ on the 1st fill.

i got my car 2008 SSM sport MT= protection package (floor mats, rear bumper aplique, and cargo tray) low jack "life time", tax/lincence, extended warranty (which bumped my apr to 5% and lowered my price on low jack) for about 18,000 out the door. also have i believe 3-6 oil changes free

and on top of that the base fit was 1400 less than the sport, but i got the sport for only 1000 more.. i got 250 mark up instead of 500, discounted low jack (automatically placed in car) and discounted protection package. and if i ever need any oem accessories, the guy who sold it to me gets me dealer price.. =)

Try higher, you may like it???
Isn't 35 what Honda recomends for a nice ride?

I have measure the temperature and pressure after my nomal comute and see this
Outside are 75F
Front tire 91F 47psi
Rear 84F 45psi

I can't say if the hurts the tires, in any way but they are rated to 51psi so my data says I'm in limits with margin, and I hope help the fuel usage.

When I get my Scanner, I'll run a test. A week with 35 and a week with 45

Just sharing and learning.

Anyone else with a Sport, ruining elevated tire pressure and have some longer term information to share?

BTW I'm at 1/4 tank now with 280 miles traveled 71% 65mph and 29% stop and go to 45mph with stops on avg ever 2miles

I hope to be above 30 on the 1st tank????
