Post Short Shifter

I just purchased a Fit about a week ago. I would like to start modifying it slowly. I wanted to know if anyone here has changed out the shifter on their own? Is it a simple task or should I have a mechanic do the job?? I am new to forums also, so please bare with me as I am learning.

Hey welcome to the forums. I havent done that mod myself and dont know if i will be doing it anytime soon. But you should do a search on it b/c i am sure there are many people who have talked about it. In terms of mods many are for looks and style and all are tasteful and looks good.

I also noticed you are from the san jose area. some of us guys from the south bay are having a super mini meet at La Vics by san jose state. so if you are interested then let me know or just PM me.

What kind of short shifter are you getting? There are 2 that I know of and that is Mugen and Skunk2. Skunk2 is just bushings that you can do yourself. I'm not too sure about the Mugen one but I think there's a lot more work involved. Console is easy to take out, 2 screws on the back sides near the bottom and pop off the little cover under the ebrake. Also I think theres 2 plastic pieces in the front sides. That's all that holds it in place. I'm sure there's DIY for the bushing set somewhere

Thanks

Thanks everyone for welcoming me. I am very surprised as to how this car drives and handles. I feel that this was money well spent. I didn't expect for it to perform the way it did being such a small car with little horse power. I have called and checked a lot of sites and the only company that makes the short shifter is Mugen, but they are charging $200+ for it. I will wait.

You can buy short shift adapters for around $50 or $60 new IIRC.

I got my Skunk2 adapter for $55 shipped from eBay. Worked great and only reason I got rid of it was because I didn't like the feel of the shifting with the metal spacers instead of the stock rubber ones, that and I already had a counter-sunk shift knob.

It's a pretty simple install. Only requires basic tools and a little patience. I installed my HFit SS and it took about 30 min (in the dark). The worst part is the location makes you bend in some weird ways (unless you're short...)
