Experience in Seafoam?

I was using Seafoam in a 240SX because it didn't pass CA smog. I put 1/3 into fuel tank, 1/3 into the vacuum line which leads to the intake manifold, 1/3 into the crankcase, ran for 15min and then oil change after. First of all, this Seafoam thing doesn't really have a clear instrustion, it just tells you 1 bottle can treat how much of stuffs. Is there a proper way to use it? I would like to do it again for the intake manifold, do I need to do an oil change again afterward? Besides that, there are a lot of argument that it will damage the CAT and the O2 sensor. Please fill me in.

It seams there is a different way to use the stuff for every car, and nobody can decide how good the stuff works. I stay away from it and use injector cleaner/fuel safe cleaner and call it a day (but then again, i did not fail emissions). I know they do have some stuff you add to your oil and/or fuel to help you pass emissions tests. It worked for me in my older cars.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help. good luck.

someone told me once you put a little in your fuel and a little in your oil and let it idle for like 15 min. or so and don't rev just let the car burn out the stuff. but to make sure you might want to search the internet for proper instructions on usage to be on the safe side.

I think it's more a matter of "there's no ONE way you have to use it." In my previous car (1999 Mercury Cougar) I'd slowly pour it into the vacuum lines leading into the upper intake manifold while revving the engine. That was because one of the biggest places garbage would build up in that car was...the upper intake manifold. I haven't had enough experience with our Fits to know yet where our problem areas might be. If you're looking to clean out the entire fuel system as a whole, pouring it into the gas tank is probably a fine way to go.

Hey DagerOne, did you have a lot of smog coming out? And did you do a oil change after you put it into the intake manifold? When I looked into other people's experience online, there's suppose to be a lot of smog coming out from the exhaust. However, in my case there's barely any smog. The car is @ 240K, so I am quite sure there're garbages stuck into the intake manifold. I doubt I did it the right way, and I want to redo it again, it will help save a couple $ if no oil change is required.

Oh, absolutely. I would take it out to my father's house in the middle of nowhere when I did it because it would produce a LOT of smoke...enough to cause alarm if it were done within the city limits. It's necessary to rev the engine to keep it from stalling while you do it, as well. Basically, I'd run 1/3 of the can through the intake manifold, 1/3 in the gas tank, and 1/3 in the oil. If you add any to the oil, count on changing the oil in a day or two. If you didn't get any smoke, perhaps your engine is just cleaner than most?
