Newbie, but not an owner (yet)

Hey everyone! My name is Derrick and I am highly interested in the Fit. I drive an 04' Element right now and as much as I love it, the MPG has just never measured up to what the EPA says it should be getting. I routinely average about 20mpg with mixed 50/50 city/highway driving and that isn't good enough for me being a commuting college student. I have been reading over the posts lately and it seems that most of you seem to be getting around 30mpg.

I am going to be test driving a fit soon and if I like the way it drives I think this is the car for me.

Just wondering if you all could give me some inside tips on the Fit: power, comfort, how tall people feel about the Fit (i am 6 foot), the base model vs. the sport model, etc.

Thanks again!

Sport vs base is easy. For the extra money you get an upgraded stereo, lip kit, security system, fog lights, cruise control, an aux input for your mp3 player, paddle shifters for the automatic, and alloy rims compared to steelies with hubcaps. Its a better bang for your buck if you can afford it but if price is your deal and these options dont matter then the base is what your looking for. Im 6'2" and i take monthly drives to Georgia (about 9 hours) and i dont really have any issues with it. The driving position isnt the greatest but it works. A dead pedal is kinda nice to have so you have a spot for your foot to sit but otherwise seating postition is alright. Gas mileage is usually better then 30 but it depends on how you drive. The first couple thousand miles are a little hard to judge cause some cars do better off the lot but if your patient the better MPG will come. Most are getting near 40 after a few thousand miles. Im at 20K now and im starting to get 38-39MPG each tank driving nicely. Hope this helps you out a bit, sorry for the read though. haha. Good luck and hope it works out for you.

Welcome aboard!

As mentioned above, I got the Sport due to cruise control. I'm 6'5" with no issues. Typically get 36-38 mpg with mixed driving (5MT).

Is there anything I should know about an 07 vs an 08? I have found some used 07's for a good price. I want a MT and this one is an 07 with 10,000 miles on it. Plus it is a sport model!

The only difference is that the 08 has TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) because it was passed into law that all 08's and newer have to have them otherwise its the same car.

as for power... if your getting an MT you will have no qualms... i hear the AT is sluggish (no surprise there) as for mileage my last tank was 32.7... which included about 30-40 miles a 80-90mph+ on the highway... and me reving sky high... before that with all back roads i was at 35.4...my best tank was right around 40... keeping a constant 45 in 5th and drafting a larger vehicle for about 40 miles... the milege really varies but my worst tank has been about 32... and that was from me reving to over 4K at every start up.... im sure when u test dive the Fit... you will fall in love as we all have! welcome to Fit Freak!

I have a base just because I was going to go cf on the lip, spoiler and maybe the skirts and rear bumper lip, and I wanted rims so the alloys didnt matter to me. Its an amazing car I love it.

for the money the sport is really good.

i mean even though i went with another lip....all those parts are back up parts. and are handy, just incase you crack a lip or something goes wrong.

cruise control to me is a must, and base models do not have it.
im a huge fog light fan, so it was a must aswell to rock the sport.

for what 1500 bucks more, i think its worth it.

thats really nothing for what you get.

Welcome.

I have not met a person yet no matter the size that has not been comfortable in the Fit. Fun to drive too. G'Luck with your decision.
