Buying a used Fit

Odometer reading, pedal wear, oil condition. (not only pull the oil stick to examine the oil, also remove oil cap and check oil around the cap; run your finger around the inside of the cylinder ghead at the oil fill to see if there is a layer of scum built up. Almost always a sure sign that there weren't proper oil changes.
If you can drive it far enough to check mpg. Check tire wear pattern for alignment problems. Check fenders for signs of rubbing from vehicle lowered /oversize tires/wheels and the like. Check state inspection date.
Ask where it was serviced and check with them for service records; check selling dealer for warranty service, and a CARFAX inquiry might be advisable. Remember, its a private sale and you have virtually no recourse if there's anything wrong you will have to fix.
Last, if it doesn't drive well don't buy it.
Good luck.

Getting a Carfax report wouldn't be a bad idea. It only shows what gets reported by repair shops and police departments, so there's still a chance that it won't tell you everything. It saved me from wasting time looking at an '07 AT Sport that had been totaled. It was a lot cheaper than any others I had been considering, and for a good reason!
My Carfax subscription is good for another week or two, so if you email me the VIN, I will run it for you.

That's a generous offer. I have not had time to meet up with the seller but if I get to it before your subscription expires, I will take you up on the offer.
