First impressions 08 sport

Last evening picked up my new 2008 sport Fit AT. Car really huggs the corners. Ride is decent, lights are good, could use a little more range in low beam but high beam is fine. Radio works well and no problem with the blue light the radio gives off, doesnt bother me. No problem with visability as some others complained about. Has good power plus the engine rpm with the AT is fine at 60mph it was 2100rpm, my 01 CRV was at about 2300 at 60mph(was 4speed-at). Just a hint of rain so far wipers seem fine. Seats fit me fine.

But the car is lacking in storage for little things. What in the world is that small little tray left of steering wheel for?? Put change in it, it falls out, tried sunglass case also falls out, my CRV had a little drop down door in the same spot to hold change, the one on the Fit seems useless, am I missing something? My CRV had a armrest that was part of the seat itself and would fold down when needed. No arm rest really stinks. Iam on a list now waiting for honda center console, that will help with both storage and needed armrest.

Topped of fuel tank(dealer didnt quite fill it, took .70 gallon) so now will check first tank for mileage. my 01 CRV averaged 23 for me, hope this does about 31 or better. Also have bug sheild on order.
Was thinking about mud flaps but not sure if i can get any to work as there isnt any metal there to attach mud flaps too. Any suggestions or arent they really needed?
Also going to get the back side windows and hatch windows tinted and eybrow for windsheild added. You would think the Sport model would have window tint.

Overall i like the car and with gas prices rising almost daily,$4.03 here,, this seems like a good car to get, almost bought a Nissan Versa, the Versa SL was a little more refined in interior with lots of storage and center console WITH ARMREST! Still i think i made the right decision, only pure luck i got one as i was at the dealer and 3 came in just then off truck transport, by the time i left all 3 were sold.

It took two tries for me to get my Fit. The first time, I test drove it and was sitting down with my salesperson getting stuff together to start wheeling and dealing, he stepped away to get some info from his finance person and while he was doing that i went back outside to check out the car and see how the seats worked. The porter came out while i was there and I was like, "so you getting this thing ready to take home?" He said yah, some lady just bought it. Some b**ch came in and bought it right out from under me with cash money in the few minutes my salesperson stepped away and i stepped outside to look at the car. ha!

I looked at the Versa as well.
I didn't really like the material the seats were made of, and having the cig lighter in the center console was a definet downer for me. I plug a lot of stuff into that and having it in the center console just wouldn't work.

I did like the Versa's CVT though...but after test driving both in one after the other the Fit has been my choice as well.

I put my garage door opener in there. It hasn't fallen out yet. The tray is actually the cover for the fuse box. You'll find a knob in the top of the tray to open it. I'm just thankful they made it somewhat useful rather than just putting a flat cover there.

I don't miss an armrest normally since this is my DD. Also, the JDM console won't fit the base AT. If one fit, I would get that over the ones that drop into the existing cup holder. If I used this for more than errands and commuting, I could see wanting the arm rest.

That little tray seems really useless to me, too. Can't even keep a ChapStick in there. Maybe there's a real use for it, but it has surely eluded me.

For me it is the perfect place to put my cell phone and wallet while driving.

That little opening works great for a garage opener, and if it slides out just use velcro.

Welcome to the fold! In case you have not read the owner's manual as of yet, you are to fill the gas tank ONLY to the first click and not beyond. Reasons for expansion, and some other stuff I cannot recall. Also, the gas tank is located under your butt, you will hear a swishing sound if creeping in the city on less than a full tank. Turn on the stereo, the solution.

You can get an armrest from the after market, it attaches in minutes. Far cheaper than replacing the entire console.

See both of these for more info:

Honda Fit: A More Perfect Fit, Fit Accessories That Won't Cost You and Arm and a Leg

A More Perfect Fit: Working Out the Bugs

Forget the mud flaps, not needed and impossible to install on the Sport. The window tint WITH front banner is a good idea, the banner is needed big time.

Cheers. KK

Yes i allready have the Zeta bug sheild coming, have it monday.
But the arm rest i much prefer the factory arm rest console, yes alot more money but i think its worth it. On list for that. Sales guy at Honda dealer wants me to bring car back so he can take a look at it once installed. He was un aware of such a console.
Think i might modify the little compartment left of steering wheel by adding small lip to it so i can use it to hold quarters for tolls. I have read about half the owners manual i must not have gotten to the part that shows that is the cover for the fuse box. More things to learn.

I've been in there twice - once to install keyless entry and once to install factory fogs. It's a snakes nest in there now, I can barely see the fuses around all the wires I've added. This is a base Fit obviously.

Congrats on getting a Fit. I can't imagine you won't get at least 31 mpg -- even though you chose an automatic (manual all the way!). Just drive it conservatively. (Manual is so much more fun and intellectually stimulating than an automatic!)

Regarding mud flaps, I don't think they would work on the Sport, plus my dealership said they recommend against installing them since they trap road salt and lead to corrosion.

Never keep a dime in plain view in this city, some idiot will break your window for the shiny silver object. There is a coin holder available for the Fit, aftermarket, goes in place of that plastic filler beside the side mirror adjusters. No end to the custom installs you can do on a Fit.

Honda HOP Coin Holder 07+ Fit - JHPUSA

I took the little tray out and drilled 2 tiny wholes and nut and bolted a plastic lip i made out of some plastic i had from one of my crashed RC helicopter canopys. Now it holds quarters and they dont fall out with the small lip i added to it. Thats how it should have been made in the first place. I wont bother with the mud flaps. Now once the weather gets nice and i can seal my paint with Klasse and add the Zeta bugsheild i will go out and take a few pictures. Mines the Tidewater Blue metallic.
Oh and yes manual might have been more fun BUT as a skier i have on occassion come back from skiing with one leg not working(knee) and if i owned a stick i would have no car for a month or two, no thanks.

Weird... I put a ton of change in the little cubby to the left of the steering wheel, and nothing has ever fallen out. I also keep access cards and things like that in there. Seemed worthless at first, but I use it every day.

That little rubber shelf on the passenger side is a waste, though.

Glad you're getting the center console. Best purchase for the car I've made.

I do agree that storage space in general sucks, though. Without the center/roof console, there are very few places to store things.
