Unhappy Paint chipping on hood

So i noticed today that on my silver 07 fit sport with 37k on it, that the paint has started to chip and bubble on a couple really small parts of the hood. Actually has a little bit of rust underneath. Now, my car is still covered under the factory warrenty, would this be a warrenty issue that they could resolve? or am i better trying to fix it myself?

Of course you should have it done under warranty if your warranty will cover it.
P.S. Your '07 has about as many miles as mine!

Good luck. I have that issue with my Fit and they are prepared to tell you what it is from and that they won't cover it. They had the nerve to tell me that mine was from bird poo and I have never had that stuff on my car. It stayed covered when not in use.

Keep me posted.

Absolutely make an appointment to have the hood looked at. Mine did almost the same thing. It was a small white spot like a bubble and when it disappeared, it was just a small pin size dot that did not have any paint covering it. I am also having issues with the areas where the body panels connect at the end. I am going to call on Monday and schedule a time for them to look at the car since it is still under warranty.

PS. You and Steeldog have really been driving those car. My car was purchased on 05/17/07 and I only have 6500 miles on it!

I was told they changed the paint in Sept 07' to prevent scratches and chipping.
Any truth to this? Or is this salesman hype?

I would speculate that this is beyond hype. Honda has switched their paint, but only to a cheaper more environmentally friendly water-based single stage paint. And from everything that I have experienced and read, this means that the paint is more susceptible to scratches and chipping. I have a black fit so it is fairly easy to notice any paint imperfections and it seams that every day there is something new on the paint from places that shouldn't even be able to obtain a scratch or chip. The one thing that I will always recommend to someone who has just bought a Honda is to get it clear coated or at a minimum get a clear bra for the front end.

Single stage?
I used #2000 grit on the bumper (parking lot scuff!) followed by polishing compound.
There was absolutely no red on the paper or in the water. Nor was there any red on my white terry rags or buffer wheel. And the paint shines like new again.
I've detailed hundereds of vehicles so I know when I'm dealing with a single stage paint. And this ain't.

From talking with the Honda service department and the American Honda representative there is no separate clear coat and base coat on the car from the factory. And the paint on the plastic pieces is different than the paint on the metal pieces. The plastic piece's paint seems more resistant to anything looking to destroy it. I have been dealing with this for over a year. I could be wrong, but this is straight from Honda's rep's mouth.

Interesting.
But the water based paints I use at home are base coat/ clear coat.
I fail to see why Honda wouldn't do this.
I already sealed my paint with a good carnauba wax.
Here is some good reading.

I hope you are right because I would hate to think that my paint is as bad as I already think it is. Either way you should go to the dealership and present the problem. You won't know if they will fix it until you ask. Again, keep us posted on what they say if you do go.

Hi guys,

I just came back from a car wash at my local gas station and I was drying up the wet spots on the car. As I got to the hood, I noticed that my hood had some chips on it. A couple of them had rust on them and quite visible because my car is NHBP paint. I am still under warranty, and I was wondering if anyone brought theirs back to the dealership?
