Washing my FIT
Washing my FIT
Hi I recently purchased my first vehicle which is the 2008 Honda Fit Sport (AT). I'm doing my first ever car wash which is rather exciting to me. I'm wondering what kinds of soap I can use and what kind of cloth I should purchase to do it with.
And also any other advice on washing my car. I live in Vancouver, BC so any product from Canadian tire would be great if you could link it. Thanks a bunch.
PS. FIT ROCKS.

For alot of info on car cleaning i recommend you go here DETAILING & FINISH CARE - Autopia.org
I would use a car soap sold at auto stores, dont use anything like dish soap as most of those will remove wax. All though i dont recommend you use wax but a sealer like Klasse.

Check out the fit care forum. Some good tips and tricks here.

Dishwashing soap is a no-no. Over time it will eat away at your clearcoat. My friend's dad used it on my friend's '88 535i for a while and it's not looking to sharp right now.
I don't see much of a difference between soaps. I use Black Magic usually, but that's just me.
Be sure to dry it all off afterwards so there won't be any waterspots. There are a few products that are meant to soak up tons of water and leave no spots. Oldtimers may use a leather cloth instead =D I like to use the Mr. Clean AutoDry. It works pretty well, especially if it's warm outside and your car is sitting in the shade as it dries off. (Although, if you ever plan to wax, do not use the AutoDry. It makes wax application a bit frustrating.)

Washed my fit this morning, didn't use any water though. I used "Dri wash 'n Guard Ultra Ion", It seemed to do a really great job and is supposed to not only clean, but protect from UV, repair minor scratches, and seal the paint. It did leave a glossy clean finish, but I am still a little skepticle over its claims. The only reason I trusted it is because it is used by a few car cleaners on military bases around here. They do a great job and use this product, so figured I would give it a shot.
Get 2 buckets, car wash soap, and some microfiber towels to wash and dry your Fit. Fill one bucket with soapy water, and the other with plain water. Wash a little at a time and never put the microfiber towel or sponge back into the soapy water without first rinsing and wringing it out in the plain water. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!! Go the the spray carwash and use the foaming bristle brush hanging on the wall. Always keep a nice coat of sealant or wax on your paint too.
