Honda to increase Fit production in 09

Was scrolling thru the new on Autoblog and there was a entry on how Honda and Ford were gonna increase production on the Fit and Focus. Honda will make 80,000 instead of the normal 60,000. I have a feeling that wont be enough to make dealers sell at less than sticker.

The AutoBlog article clearly states it has been rated at 28/34.... interesting...

That article doesn't make sense. If Honda is upping the production of Fit's at the US plant why would it have an impact on the number produced in other markets? Are they going to produce 20,000 less somewhere else? If so, why?

As far as I can tell there is no US plant, all Fit production for the US and Canadian markets are assembled in Japan and shipped to US or Canadian ports.

From link posted in 09 Fit thread: Honda boosting Fit production to meet U.S. demand - Autoblog

The 2009 Fit has been rated at 28/34 mpg city/highway and will start at $14,620. U.S. production is limited because Honda only has capacity to build 500,000 Fits a year right now for the entire world, and if we get more in the U.S., someone else has to get less elsewhere in the world.

The article didn't make sense to me because I thought the '09 would be produced in the US. I was mistaken. They weren't able to switch production fast enough. Once the Indiana plant is producing Civics, it will take some of the pressure off of the Ohio plants. I bet the 2010 Fit will be made in the US.

More people with a better car (than 07/08) = win-win.

Oh shut up. j/k While the new 09 may be better, it sure as hell don't look better (i guess with time it will look better but as of now i sure don't like the new one).

From everything I've read it seems the '09 will be a substantially more refined, comfortable car. It doesn't look as good to my eye, but I bet from the drivers seat, it will be a nicer car.

Our "early" models could end up with cult car status for being more unique and sporty.
