This has been a good thread with some thought-provoking material in it. I am considering doing some more pulse-and-glide driving in my Sport manual (averaging 41 mpg currently). However, there is one thing that nobody has mentioned: the "pissing-off-the-spouse" factor.

Gee, maybe we should start a new thread on that one.

Update

I tried cruising highway pulsing 4th gear, flooring the pedal. I think it doesn't work haha. My mileage was unaffected. I'm now gonna try your way, where I pulse using 5th gear and accelerate moderately.
