USB Audio Interface Compatibility

the USB Audio Interface* can read flash drives loaded with MP3 or WMAŽ music files. You can also plug in your compatible iPodŽ to this port, which not only charges the device but allows it to be controlled using the interface dial on the head unit or steering wheel.
Does this only work with the navigation system or is it still an option if you decide to go with a CD Player head unit?

I don't necessarily need a navigation system (even though it would be nice), but I like the idea of being able to control my iPod through the head unit...
