Safe, painless, quick way to package and ship big items?

I am trying to sell my OEM tires and wheels, yeah? And I'm asking $400 shipped, yeah? Well I just don't want to spend half that in shipping. What's the best route to go for packaging my items safely and getting them to their destination cheaper than $50 a tire/wheel?

You can use cardboard and cut it out the shape of the wheel and stick some foam in between so it won't scratch the rim. Then just use a bunch of packaging tape and tape the whole thing together. It's ghetto but it works. I believe usps is probably the cheapest to use also.

I'd go to a local tire/wheel shop and ask if they have empty boxes for the size wheels you want to ship. If you sell them with the tires mounted on the wheels, just get some cardboard, make sure its somewhat thick, and make it as large a diameter as you can, at the minimum as large as the wheel, then either get some tie straps at a local shipping place, or just tape them to the tires. Thats how discount tire ships wheel/tire combos that are already mounted. UPS ground is also probably going to be your cheapest bet for shipping.

Thumbs up

try dhl or fedex ground, 2 rims/tires in separate boxes well taped together, should be around $60, x 2 = $120 for a set of rims/tires, 2 packages about 70 lbs each...try it...

When packaging rims, I usually ship them out 2 wheels at a time. I tie two rims using the spokes area making a + sign holding them together, so it looks like a double wheel on trucks, with the spokes facing each other inward. holds two together, and prevents scratches easily, since the tires are wider then the rim (not stretched set up) and it becomes a squarish like package rather then a rectangle. yep.

get what im saying?

Okay so this is going to take some time on my part then lol. This weekend I'm going to get boxes from a tire shop, buy some thick cardboard and packaging tape, tape two tires/wheels together with rims facing each other, maybe some bubble wrap between two pieces of cardboard? Then I'll let everyone know they're for sale and ready to ship lol. I wish it was easier than this but I guess not. If I ask $400 shipped then I only see $280 if it costs $120 to ship...is that too little, or normal for OEM? I'd love to find someone local to pick it up so I don't gotta go through all this trouble lol Anyone in Florida, as far south as Orlando wanna meet halfway

UPS Ground. Cardboard on either side with a thin layer of foam on the rim side. I wouldn't do 2 at a time, but that is just me. It won't make it any cheaper since they charge by weight.

Or you could post them up on your local Craigslist. That's what I did. Less than a day went by and I got $500 for my 08 stock alloys minus the TPMS sensors! The guy came and picked them up so no hassle of packaging or shipping cost.

Im about to ship some Monday. I have boxes my SSR's came in so Im just going to put them back in there.
Problem is my wheels are heavy with tires. :-/

I honestly dont think I can carry the boxes alone? Maybe....

I shouldnt cost more then $100-150 to ship wheels/tires. Depending on the size and weight of course.
Most of the cost is custom boxes and ish.

Remember to deflate your tires. Every little bit helps.
