What's your best mpg per tank?
I drive conservatively, watch the road ahead, no fast starts, and do not go over 3 grand ( well most of the time, sometimes I just have to kick it and "cut some corners" to feel young again ) on the 15 mile trip to work & back. 15 miles of stop and go with top speed limit of 50mph in a couple areas. I use the ethenol 89 gas (called corn gas here in Nebraska) and have automatic transmission, K & N filter. Is 33pmg about right? I need to get out and try a road trip but have not had the need and don't want to waste gas, extra miles or $ just to see what kind of milage I would get. I will stop whinning and see what all of you Fit Freaks say.

I have a 2007 base MT from late October 2006. The only "mods" I have are using full synthetic oil and put my tires up to 40ps. Also, as I have almost 50k miles on the stock tires they are well worn in lowering the rolling resistance if that helps.
I would like to do some simple aero mods though. Would also like it if there was a commonly available transmission (from a junkyard) that would drop right in for some reasonable highway rpms, but I'm sure most of us would love that.

Google has a neat calculator feature. Simply type your mileage with the words 'in mpg' after and it will give the equivalent mpg.
Example text: '5.2l/100km in mpg' yields the result 5.2 L/100km = 45.2335737 miles per gallon
The reverse also works. Enter '45mpg in L/100km' and the result is "45 miles per gallon = 5.22699074 l/100km". Neat, eh?

I've been over 45 mpg several times since then and had a few 46+ mpg tanks as well.

that's what I'm usually getting now. Between 37-41mpg. I used to get 46mpg when hypermiling but now I rarely hypermile so my mpg went down. BTW, what kind of wheels do you have? Looks good on your car.

My best was 39mpg with 35psi front and rear. 2008 Manual sport. Studded snowtires at 32 cut that down to 25-28. I am a little disappointed since my old 96 civic hatchback consistently broke 40. I wonder how much of it has to do with the 10% ethanol they stick in the gas now...
2009 1.5 L i-VTEC and MT vs AT
Hey, I'm a newbie here (March 2009), but I chose the automatic (Sport) because of the axle ratio. A friend has the MT and tells me his RPM is 3000 at 65, I see more like 2300, so you'd expect the MT to do worse on mileage. A 6 speed tranny would fix that. My last 4 cars were manual for superior MPG and responsiveness. I'm still learning how the S mode works with the paddle shifters. Seems like it will not go beyond 3rd unless you paddle it up.
I'm also new to the MPG display. Does everyone else know it is 4 MPG higher than reality? Always been that way?
The 09 is a little more HP than the older models so I don't expect 50 MPG, but do expect over 40 cruising at 65.

Hi DoktorDreem, yes the mpg indicator on your dash is very optimistic and is 4mpg+ over. And from what I've read before that automatic Fit gets better mpg on Highways. Some correct me if I'm wrong. I've slowed down posting and reading or sometimes I just read and don't post so I'm kind of outdated. Been pretty busy even on weekends.
40-41 is consistent with thetruthaboutcars.com mileage for the 2009 AT. I don't see much info in the EPA threads about Fit year in question. It would be nice to see some 2009 vs older Fit info as the new L15 with i-VTEC puts out more top end HP. I'm skeptical of the 55 MPG claims some post but perhaps these are real on older models or 1.3l and 1.4l models. This recent purchase was all about MPG and replaces my 1989 Golf GL which could do 40.5 on a long trip if well maintained. The Fit handled nicer than Yaris or Matrix and I was able to get a very good price well below invoice. Besides, nothing else looks like a GE with its outrageous pointy nose and swoopy lines.
I feel like most of the bloggers here are half my age...

I'm on my 4th tank. Driving to work 11 miles with some weekend highway miles I got 31.7, 33.5 and 34.6. Looks like I'm headed for another 33-34 MPG this week. Mind you my other cars would be 23-25 MPG for the same activity so this is very impressive. EPA is 33 HWY for the Sport AT vs Base MT at 35. I'm skeptical that the tires and AT cost 2 MPG but manual locks and no cruise control was unthinkable.
I'm still learning about the S mode and how the paddles work. Today I tried staying in 5th on an 11 mile HWY trip and the car seemed to do well on mild 1% hills that in normal AT mode would go into 4th. Other experiments are paddling to near redline in S mode getting up to merging speeds versus granny mode (don't exceed 2500 RPM). Looking at the MPG meter the average seems to not be penalized that much.
Driving 22 miles on the 405 in light traffic the meter shows 44 which adds up to 40 ish. Another trip twice as long was only 1 MPG better, using the meter. I'd expect a trip to Vegas to be low 40s. This does include light AC duty.
One more thing, first 5 miles the MPG is rather lackluster. This car needs to be at operating temperature to shine. As you might suspect I have lots more to say...
