OEM vs generic rims
OEM vs generic rims
My interest is specifically steel rims for winter tires, but it led me to think: when you buy custom rims for your Fit, are they generic/multifit, or specific to the Fit (and compatible Civics)? What's the difference between OEM and generic/multifits, are the bolt holes simply bigger to accommodate other cars?
usually they fit a ton of cars if it shows the fit. The civic has the same bolt pattern, and many other cars do as well. If you are looking for steel rims you can find them everywhere. The fit has extremely high offset though, so whatever you buy make sure the offset is high
Thanks for all the replies. I still wasn't quite sure what if any risks there would be going with a generic, so I just said the heck with it and went with the winter tires with rims from Honda itself... about $10 extra each rim, so not a huge deal.
The dealer is selling Michelin X-Ice (175/65/14, I believe) for about $120 each. That's about $9 more per tire than Canadian Tire sells for.
In Ottawa, winter tires are selling out all over, because starting this year, cars registered in our neighbouring province must have winter tires by law. Apparently some tire manufacturers didn't ramp up production to meet this demand, certain sized winter tires are selling out everywhere in Quebec, so they're coming over the river to buy ours too. The dealership was all out of tires for CRVs and couldn't order more, for instance.

Thanks for the info.
I think I'm going to put the Canadian Tire Goodyear Nordics on my steel rims this year. We put a set on my wife's Echo last year (175/65R14) and I was pleasantly surprised with them. They're sold in Scandinavia/Russia as the Goodyear UltraGrip 500, but Canadian Tire has exclusive marketing for them in North America.
