Next, the Swift is not coming to the U.S. Instead, we are getting the SX4:

This car is based on the Swift chassis, will have an AWD option and will be more powerful than the Japanese/European Swift.

Finally, the new Swift is not based on the Echo/Vitz. However, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong, so if you find proof that it is, I'm always willing to learn something new.
Interesting, yes, the current Swift is not coming to the US. I did read that Suzuki were to sell the Daewoo sourced Chevy Aveo here as the Swift, built in the same plant in Canada that gave us the Metro/Swift. I am guessing this was dashed from this.

Many of the US Suzukis are Daewoos. A shame, Suzuki built some tough little cars. The 1989 version of the Swift/Geo Metro was sold in Europe built in Hungary up until a couple years ago (including AWD ones), sold both as a Suzuki and Subaru (no relation to the older Justy we saw). You can find the cars on ebay.de sometimes.

It has a different character to it. Looks a bit more refined to me than the Fit, which in my head translates to it being less powerful but comfy. Almost like a Mini mated with a Mazda3. With its more rounded profile, the Fit looks fun and that lends itself to a feeling of sporty character.

Today's Suzuki vehicles are crap. My fiance bought a new Aerio which turned out to be a lemon. Then bought a Forenza which too turned out to be a lemon. Bad experince with current cars. I don't recommend going to Suzuki.

Has anyone seen the Suzuki LC Concept? Not exactly in the same category as the Fit, but still interesting. I'd take one...

Sorry to confuse the issue even more, but the European/Japanese Swift IS coming to NA, according to at least one source:

Google is a wonderful thing.

If that is true, then I'm pissed. This car was on my short list for a replacement for my RX-8.

I'm a long time Suzuki fan, and just regretfully sold my 1990 Suzuki Swift GT.
I've been interested in both the Honda Fit and the new Swift for a while now.
Suzuki is one of Japan's premiere small car makers, few of which you've seen here. I _think_ Suzuki has had the top selling K-car for the past 25 years.

I've owned a 1991 Accord and a 2002 Civic Si, so I've done my Honda time, and they make great cars. The new Fit is fantastic, and I had an awesome test drive today, it was much better than I expected (and I expected it to be the best small car I had ever driven!!). I liked it better than the Mini Cooper, regular or S.

So as of now I am saying that I think the Honda Fit is the best "small car" I've ever driven (and I've driven a lot of them). It's not as much fun as my Miata, but it's much more fun than my Aveo. (although that only cost $8500 new w/auto & a/c).

However, I'm not going to buy it until I give the Swift a shot. It's been very popular in every market it's in, and I don't think that the Fit has any obvious advantages over the Swift. Of course, only the drive will tell.

However, I'm going to join the crowd that says it's overpriced. $16k? I bought my Civic Si for that much!
