Aux port

I tried 3 different tape players in the port and got anything from weak sound to a steady hum. A guy at the service dept. plugged his I-Pod in and got great sound. He played with the volume control on one of my tape players, and when it was up at about 3/4 volume, sound came in loud and clear through the speakers. Thought he'd nailed it, but when I plugged the player back in, Billy Joel sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Ditto the other one (a Walkman). Anyone know why the tapes are playing at high speed?

If the tapes are playing back at high speed that means something is wrong with the tape player. The steady hum or weak volume (even with the volume at 3/4) could be a bad cable.

After you left the service dept and Billy Joel sounded like Alvin, was it at least coming in loud and clear? I remember on some mechanical cassette players that if you pressed the play button in part way it would play back fast and sound high pitched.

If you do not know how to use your tape player why do you use it?

It is not Honda that cant make it it is Alpine and I think Pioneer or Panasonic. I had an Alpine head unit in my old car with iPod control and I preffer just plugging the iPod into the AUX outlet. Much less Hassle. The only downside is if I forget to turn it off when I leave the car I miss out on a bunch of songs

I figured out the problem and got one of the players to work (the Walkman). I think I know how to use it. Thank you, Brek, for your help. Most of the people on the Forum have been positive and helpful and it's been a great place to go for advice and updates on the Fit.

I aplologize if I sounded harsh. I meant nothing by it.
I hope I did not hurt your experiences here at the forums.
Good to hear it works good.
Is the quality similar to other items you've heard play through the Aux jack?

I was pleased with the sound quality through the speakers from an ordinary Walkman. I'd tried listening to tapes in an '03 CR-V (with a factory tape deck); maybe a bit clearer, but not bad at all! I prefer to make my own tapes from CDs so I only have to listen to my favorites. Rather than burn CDs, I find it a lot easier to haul around self-contained cassettes. I can pop them back out and don't necessarily have to find the case right away. I may sound low-tech, not to mention clutzy, but I think CDs are too fragile and awkward to handle in a vehicle -- and not the best choice for a hot climate.
