Car & driver trashed the caliber. They did a comparo' with the fit. To give ya a run down the fit was faster, more fuel efficent, handeld better, the list really goes on.

As with the gas milage worries, the fit was more efficient then the the accent, Rio, Versa, Reno and obviously the caliber. The yaris was slightly thriftier then the Fit.

basicly If you want the best small get a fit. If you have a thing for dodge and like throwing away your money get a caliber.

I don't think squishing would be the cost - just downshifting (if the gears were taller).

I would not want them to take away the airbags or ABS - that is the big draw to me. Most small cars are hard to get with ABS - at least if you don't want a sunroof.

Thats true, I like the sunroof idea but would give that up for safety anytime. If they did include one though...............I'd take it with the safetey whoohoo!. CDNRSX, thanks for clearing up the whole caliber/fit comparison. After one of the guys before told me how much trouble he had with ALL of his dodge models and none with honda i mean its just clear which car comes up on top. I really think that the fit is going to be successful. There are some people who can pay $90 and up at the pump but for those of us who are here on earth need something more efficient.

Im interested in getting the fit. Looked at the specs and thought ok this is better than what i have now ..far as options, mileage and safety... (04 kia spectra) and I am looking to buy by the end of the year. However I was looking at the Caliber and that had most of the features that I want, but gets slightly less gas mileage 27/32.

Since the Fits tank is smaller and even though it gets mileage in the 30's would it kind of be safe to assume that i would feel like im getting 27/32 from frequent fillups due to the small gastank? I mean I really like the fit but i happened to stumble upon the caliber and according to forums people who bought them really love it.

Really, im looking for a car with easy on the gas and good on space bla bla bla. Im trying to filter out all of the bad things people are saying about the fit because I think it has alot of potential and hey, its by honda so im comfortable with thier reputation. Dodge I dunno. I agree that honda should not have left the fit site to college students.

Quite frankly i was dissapointed. Its making the car go down in value lol lemme stop. Btw, does anyone know if the fit sport will at least have a sunroof available by early next year? Im weary of cutting a hole in the roof since 95% of the people ive asked and what i have read, say that its not worth it due to leaks. Anyways help me out.
You can't compare a Dodge to a Honda. End of story.

It sounds to me like you are concerned about the overall range of the car. A little clicking and some simple math gives an interesting result. Dodge gives a 13.5 gallon fuel tank capacity for the Caliber and Car and Driver got 28 mpg on their 1000 mile trip. That gives a range of 378 miles.

For the Fit, the tank is 10.8 gallons and C/D got 35 mpg. 10.8 x 35 = guess what?...378! Strange coincidence, but you won't be filling up any more often in the Fit than you would be in the Calibre, and at $3.00 per gallon, you will be saving $8.10 per tank.

Math is fun, and useful!

Fit or something else?

I'm one of those people that research the heck out of everything. I won't buy a toaster oven until I read the ratings. There's lots of great info on the Internet, especially this forum. I haven't seen much of anything negative about the Fit. Before I started checking it out I looked at plenty of competition. Cargo space is a big issue, but I also want to save gas without sacrificing performance -- at least not to the point where I have to worry about getting up acceleration down a highway entrance ramp. If you want versatility, those "Magic Seats" and overall cargo volume are something to consider before deciding. And of course there's that long-term Honda reliability. The Fit doesn't have a history to look back on, but every Honda model that's been out awhile has withstood the test of time.

The Fit does have a history - just not in the U.S. or Canada.

Would Consumer Reports, Edmunds, MSN Auto, etc. provide info based on performance of a different model overseas? Their reliability ratings come from consumer surveys and I don't think they ask anyone outside of the U.S.

The point is that the new cars bugs have been worked out and there is no reason to expect anything other than typical Honda reliability (with the exception of the Odyssey, which remains only average to CR).
