spare key without original?

I was wondering if a spare key can be made by the dealership if the original is missing. I have another 2007 Mazda6 that only has 1 key, but I'm not sure if I want to spend the $100 or so to make a backup since in all my family's years of car ownership, we've never had to use the spare. Was just wondering if it's possible to get a new key made & programmed if the original is lost. Applies to Fits too, with engine immobilizer chip.

Yes.

In the event your lose your keys or lock them in your car, just go to the dealership with your VIN number and they will be able to make a new key for you. But be aware that to program the immobilizer, the dealership needs access to the car. That could mean having it towed in if you have no keys!!

Plus, the old key if found again would be deactivated.
