Ipod Integration
Ipod Integration
I am looking for more info on the ipod integration inot the 2007 Honda Fit Sport. Is it standard? Probably not. Is it exspensive? Probably, yes.
Has anyone used it first hand is it different from others? What funstions does it have? etc...
Thanks

Collegehills has the cost listed at $162. There isnt much "official" info on how the unit will work specifically with the Fit, but there has been a lot of discussion on here based on how it works with the Civic.
This guy wrote a pretty detailed negative review of the honda musiclink with his civic:

Here's a video demonstration of it in action thats also a bit less than flattering:

Despite these reviews, some people swear by the honda musiclink. But if you have a 3rd gen iPod, you are out of luck as it is not compatible.

So what do you guys recommend for someone who plans on getting a base model but want to use an iPod? If the honda music link thing sux but the base model stereo has no AUX input jack are there other alternatives? The stereo doesn't look like you can just easily replace it w/ an aftermarket.
Crutchfield, BestBuy, Circuit City, or any other dealer have no info on what aftermarket stereos will "fit" the Fit.
Hopefully that will change soon. An aftermarket stereo with Ipod integration probably wont cost much more than getting the musiclink:
An Alpine unit head unit and adaptor cable are retail priced at $230:
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=CDE-9852
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=KCE-422i
I would expect, but im no expert, installation cost to be comparable to what a dealership would charge to install the musiclink.
Of course, I assume this all depends on a new dash panel being available for NA Fit in the near future, right?

what's wrong with the AUX?
for those of us who aren't audiophiles, it's not like we'll notice any differences in sound quality (if any)
I'm just plannign to use the AUX, simple and sweet

Sorry to burst your bubble Jonniedee. The Ipod connection is indeed offered as an option on Canadian models, and I was able to verify the existence of the standard aux. input in both LX and Sport models.
Dañiel, my dealer in Montreal does offer it. Did you check with another dealer?

Even if the dealers don't offer the wire, the port will be there. You can pick up the adapter anywhere and connect it. However, the whole controling the iPod from the deck- sucks. The best way is to get a line out/charger and hard wire it to the auxilary port. Best sound and you still get to use the iPod interface.
Base model doesn't have the AUX input port so it wouldn't work for my needs. I'm totally fine with just plugging it in and controlling it through the ipod, but the question is how if the base stereo doesn't have the capability and I'm opting away from the music link, and it looks like aftermarket stereos don't have any info just yet.
I usually upgrade my deck right after I buy a car. This time I like the way the dash looks and don't want to have a crapy looking after market kit. I'm sure someone has found a way to change Honda's CD player input into an auxilary input with a special wire. If i were you I would try to find that wire.
AUX + Apple Remote?
So given all the hassles with MusicLink software, I'm thinking of using the AUX port and 12v adapter...
Wondering if anyone has tried using the Apple Remote in the car (think this requires the dock though).

I'm getting a Fit sport and I'm told I just need to get a cable for the musiclink to work with my 4th gen ipod, but where do I get it? Where can I get an adapter? I've been looking for a musiclink cable that looks like the one in the Fit brochure, but can't find anything. Do you think I really have to pay $160something for the whole musiclink kit? Maybe I'll just do the auxillary cable instead. Bummer
