MSRP for the Fit is fair but any addon Dealer price would be stupid . The idea behind this car is to SAVE money both on Gas and Price. ECONO , so everyone needs to chill a bit , and the Dealers will not be able to PRICE GOUGE . I'll drive my 1996 ACCORD for a little while longer . And then get the Fit when the price settles down. My Ex wife works for Goodson Honda on 1-10 at beltway 8 in Houston , Texas a salesman there told me on Monday he had 6 Fits sold already preorders.

Heh, if I could I would. I start my job in July and need to move in June...and my parents sold my car while I was in college. This is gonna be the first car for me that's mine and mine alone. Luckily, I live in SUV country so I'll be getting away with a semi-fair price.
Good Move! Just tell a salesman the moment he has one to sell at MSRP, to give you a call, and you'll be up there. You can be sure he will call as soon as that is possible (ie: as soon as his sales manager will let him sell one at that price) because ~ 2-3 hundred profit for him is > no profit, unless my math is off.
I agree, its a great buy at MSRP. Anyone that's had economics knows about supply/demand, and the forces behind that. If demand >>> supply, then a price at MSRP for that point in time can be very fair. To just universally say its a bad deal to pay much over invoice is, quite frankly, an expression of ignorance. Case and point, if you want a Prius or MINI, even today, you'll be paying near, at, or beyond MSRP.
There are plenty of GM cars out there for those that want those invoice prices ;-) hee

This is going to be my line the every time I buy a car in the future, if there's a problem with price: "I understand your manager doesn't want to sell it at this price, and I'm sure he will sell it to someone else. The fact is, I'm sitting here willing to buy today at xx price. The question you need to consider, is 'will you be the one to sell this car?' If you can convince your manager to sell it to me, then the answer is obvious...."
I don't know it would work, but I think it makes sense to at least raise the issue.
