There's a difference... a person listening to loud music via headphones or not, is receiving a huge stimulus which can be distracting. A deaf person is not only without the audio stimulus, but because of that, their other senses are heightened.

Headphones also can place a burden on other drivers, since we have to look out for you. And for new drivers. And lost drivers. And old drivers. And cell phone drivers. Drunk drivers. Stoned drivers. Rushing drivers. Parents with children screaming, fighting, or asking "are we there yet?" from the back seat. I'm not getting paid for all this babysitting.
All any of us need to do is check other threads with photos of accidents. That's what happens. Accidents. And injuries.

That irritates me AND is dangerous. And I can't stand being forced to listen to someone ELSE'S music while I'm going down the road. If I can hear YOUR music in MY car and both of our windows are up...it's TOO LOUD.
Anyway,back to the whole driving-with-headphones thing. If you want to drive with earbuds, feel free, but try just using one. You can still hear everything...including ambient noise.
