My driver lock is not working!

My driver lock is not working!

My driver side door lock isn't opening from the outside. It started out at first the key was just really tough to go in and turn. Now the key won't go in, or if it does it's REALLY tough and the tumbler won't turn. Anyone else had this problem? Passenger side is ok. I have a base, so no keyless so I have to unlock manually. Too much wear and tear?

spray some WD40 inside.

Might run down on to the auto parts store and pick some up on my lunch break. Didn't think the Fit should be having that problem yet.

Never/Always Use WD-40

If you would like to become thoroughly confused (who wouldn't?), do a google search on "wd-40 lock". You'll find advice never to use WD-40 on locks, only silicone or teflon. You'll find other sites that tell you to use only graphite, other sites that advise never graphite, and yet other sites that advise in favor of WD-40.

Maybe even for something that sounds this simple, call the dealers service department and see what they recommend.

I put some in it on lunch, and the key went in easier but didn't turn. I'll see I guess when I head home.

The nice part about wd40 is that it gets almost all through the lock. The problem is that is also dilutes the existing grease and doesn't provide a sufficient long-term corrosion barrier. (that part can be beneficial if the lock is full of dirt; the wd40 will get the grease out, and the dirt with it.)

That is thoroughly odd, normally the least-used lock corrodes the most. No action, water freezes, stuff seizes.

the issue is first getting the seized lock to free up. then you can add some thicker lubes (white silicon grease spray) to lube it for long term.

normally frequently used locks seize up for cars... probably due to the lint/dirt and water that gets inside when you insert the key.

Had the same problem with mine and my brothers car.
I bought this:
Amazon.com: LOCK EASE GRAPHITE LOCK FLUID--5 OZ. AEROSOL: Home Improvement

Worked like a charm, I was going to use wd40, but alot of people who I asked were against it.

really? why?

not that i endorse WD40 by any means, but it worked unseize many locks in the past for me.

graphite lube is a good idea too, but the black can get on your cloths.

I have the same problem.... last week I couldnt get the key in unless a good amount of force was used.
I used the WD-40 method, just made the key easier to go in but wouldnt turn.
I figured it's time for an alarm w/ remote entry....
