Hahaha, no. But I have heard that too. VTEC would make gas mileage horrible, but when I use cruise, my mileage goes up. So I highly doubt it's active.

Plus, as I've read about the Civic, VTEC burns a bit of oil in DOHC engines, so if Honda made cruise always active while cruising, they'd be destroying their own engines. But as we know, Honda has a very high regard for longevity
