2007-2008 Fit EPS Failures
With every thing going on with Toyota right now and some of the other auto makers coming clean on safety issues Honda might as well fess up to the problem with there EPS systems. Mine failed while taking a corner and nearly caused a collision. It was out of warranty so I had to ask American Honda for some goodwill assistance. After being ignored and then made to feel like I was doing something wrong by asking for assistance (not to mention being with out transportation for two weeks), Honda agreed to cover most of the cost of the repair. My portion was $288.00 which was more than actual cost for the part. Mine isn't the only one that failed. There are threads on several forums regarding this issue. Step up Honda.

File a complaint if this has occurred to you.
Everyone that has had an issue, file a complaint.
Honda requiring us to pay for a defective piece that is VITAL car operation is in my view quite wrong.
They won't do anything about it unless we file the complaints. The only reason I haven't wrecked in the several times my EPS has acted up is b/c I knew it could happen b/c of this forum. Hate to say it, but I've seen plenty of fits that probably aren't registered on here and I'd hate to think what would happen if this occurs to them.
So....flood the system. Like the OP pointed out, think they won't do something now especially with the hit Toyota is taking?

I probably should. Quite honestly though, I kind of ran out of steam after dealing with American Honda for two weeks. I think that was there strategy. The case manager that handled my case reminded me of a person that I dealt with years ago who worked for a collection agency.
If people want to come together on this forum and agree to file a complaint I'd be happy to do it but I'm guessing there are tons of auto complaints pouring right now over at NHTSA.

Electric power steering. There's a computer that controls the electric motor that provides the assist. That computer fails. When it fails mid corner like it did on mine you may end up forcing the person in the lane next to you off the road.

No recall and I doubt there will be. Failures aren't quite as wide spread like they are on the Chevy Cobalt but certainly not unheard of. The steering becomes very difficult which isn't such a hazard unless it happens while driving like mine did. Oh, and the fact that it's $1100.00 for the fix. If Boeing can make fly by wire work than Honda should be able to make this stuff work. This is my sixth Honda car and probably my last unless they get things figured out or at least stand behind there products when they know that it's not an isolated problem.

It's not more dangerous than regular old hydraulic steering. It's only dangerous if it happens to go out in the middle of a corner and the effort required to steer the car suddenly becomes much greater. It's also B.S. when you've just purchased your sixth Honda because they're so reliable and now there's and eleven hundred dollar problem that isn't exactly an isolated one. Not to mention the fact that this problem is starting to show up in the new gen cars.
