Really though, Oklahoma's ccw law makes you take your carry weapon with you when you leave your car. So someone can't steal it and use it for no good. I would guess that most states are similar.
No gun in my car, never owned one, never needed one, had several pulled on me in the past, no problems in life.....probably would not have been the same if I had one too...some stupid kid or I would get shot dead, whatever. Give them a couple bucks to buy drugs and they move on....
But, he has a right to cary it, and I have a similar problem. I always keep a Maglite flashlight on the floor next to the seat/driver's door in every car I have ever owned. Does not work on the Fit however. Tried the back, but it rolls around, in the glovebox, makes noise and rolls around.
Anyone else?

I think that you can get some clips that will screw in place for your maglight. Passenger side of console might work. I used to carry a fire extinguisher in a pickup on the right kick panel. You might have to drill holes for the maglight clips.
Better yet get a smaller light. Have you tried any of the LED flashlights. You can get as much light out of a smaller flashlight and get it into the glovebox. Of course you can't use a smaller light as a club like you can a maglight.

I was kinda curious about that, too. My current car has a center console that would be big enough to fit a full size auto, but usually when I travel, I just drop my S&W 637 in there, it also has a nice document holder in the top lid in which a speedloader fits naturally.
Though, I don't have my CHL yet, so I don't carry. That, and my employer has a no guns in the car policy (like that's really going to stop someone from going postal! We'd all be sitting ducks at work!)
A lot of naysayers need to understand, in the US, the police CANNOT and ARE NOT REQUIRED to protect individual citizens! (courts have ruled that way) Read that line again. So who will protect you? Also, think about this: When do the police arrive at the scene of a crime? A. Before it happens? B. As it happens? or C. After it happens?
Carrying a gun is like carrying auto insurance. You're not going to go run into people in your car just because you've got insurance, now, are you?
It's about self reliance. Some of us know that no one will be there to protect us 24/7. We choose to do something about it.
However, you must also not confuse that attitude with vigilantism. Most of us that carry know, and are trained that self defense is more than carrying a gun. It's a commitment to situation awareness, avoidance, deterrance and evasion. A gun is a last resort.

I still the the best place would be under the small cubby hole to the left of the steering wheel. If you reach underneat you will find it's smooth plastic. Some strong adhesive tape would be able to hold a pouch strapped there. Or with just drill and add some screws and make your own little holster.
Oh and police are required to protect citizens. They are under what's called a "duty to act". If they see a crime being committed they MUST help. They have discretion to act on things such as minor offenses and traffic violations but serious felonies must be acted upon.

However, keep in mind this paraphrased situation... I think this happened in D.C.. A young lady woke up from a nap one afternoon/evening, and heard a disturbance downstairs. She cautiously checked what was going on. Her two female roomates were being assaulted by several men (being raped and beaten). She retreated upstairs and called the police. After some long amount of time (an hour or more maybe?) the police had not responded, and the men left. Her roomates were both beaten seriously, and raped several times.
When they tried to sue the police for not responding, the court smacked them down, saying the police cannot be held responsible for what happened, or not getting there in time.
Similar cases have resulted in similar rulings.
So unless there's a cop that would happen to witness you being attacked, then the duty of protection falls upon your own shoulders.
